Top 10 Games of the Ought Decade (2000-2009)

  • No surprise here. My playtime spans across five years with numerous breaks during that period. I'm drawing near to a full year of having not played it. It may be abandoned by me, but the memories I share with 12 million others is something I will never forget.

  • Prior to Tetris DS, my relationship with the series was bitter at best, but with the DS iteration, it became much simpler with all of the added elements from the series' evolution, and that made this the one handheld game I played the most. The sad thing is I lost my copy of the game three years ago and I refuse to pay double of what I paid for it online due to the game being out of print.

  • I'm gonna cheat here and lump Persona 3 and 4 together. In all honesty, one would not have made this list without the other. Watching clips from Giant Bomb's Endurance Run of Persona 4 sparked the interest in Persona and I managed to find a copy of Persona 3: FES for $20 at Gamestop. The following summer, I decided to have an endurance run of my own with a buddy and we got pretty far until school started back up. Regretting not finishing the game, I started up my copy of Persona 4, which I had acquired earlier and finished it last quarter. The games' pseudo-dating sim meets Pokemon experience has renewed in my interest in JRPG's as well as given me motivation to do better in school and in my social life: "Popularity leads to intimacy."

  • The crowned jewel of the Wii's library thus far. I'll admit that I never collected all 120 stars from Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Sunshine, but somehow I had no problem collecting all of the stars in Galaxy. Maybe it was because the game seemed easier to me or maybe it was the leaked promise of playing as Luigi that drove my desire to achieve this goal. Regardless of the reasoning, this is a fantastic game and I owe it solely to the game's amazing orchestrated soundtrack. I'm a sucker for video game music and I think only Persona 4 could compete with this game for best soundtrack.
