@august: I played it on PSP as well and I don't think I ever passed the cooking level either, and it definitely wasn't my first rhythm game.

Bummer they didn't fix this game up a little bit more, the humor and art are still great but the timing issues in this QL do not make me eager to play it. I played the Vita version of Vib-ribbon and, though I sucked at the hard stages, I don't remember any wacky latency stuff or it feeling unfair.

That was lots of fun to watch, albeit nerve wracking.
