Surprised to see Blaseball brought up.

Not intended dunk here, it's very cool, but isn't just essentially a RP Forum? (Something that was very popular, and common, a long time ago) But instead of voting on Wrestling PPV results, or writing fanfic about your Harry Potter OCs, it's framed around a simulated fantasy baseball league.

Or am I super underselling the baseball simulation aspect? It's the part you never hear about.

Polymorph is cool. Just don't use it at point blank in case... Ya know. But from across the room where you can react to the result, maybe polymorph again, it's a ok.

So great!

We believe in you! Don't dodge those low level jobbers. You'll never win if you don't level up.

So, while not directly related, my browser super crashed while watching this video.

That's the most on brand thing I can think of considering this games reputation. Made me laugh.

I would adore a Slam Masters spiritual follow up that doubled down on it being a fighting game but kept ALL the wrestling mechanics.

Zelda 2 is maybe too hard for it's own good and I liked Zelda more but as a kid, so when this game came out, it was very cool. The fact that it was such a different game was a definite strength.

I miss that attitude honestly. There are so many modern franchises where I adored the first couple entries but after so many sequels that are just that game again... I just kind of don't care. There's just too much out there you could be playing. Even something you really love is a victim of diminishing returns over time, so unless your one of these weirdos who define themselves by which videogame franchise they "champion", a sea change like Zelda 2 is just, I think anyways, a great thing to have.

I started playing Eternal Ring, which is *basically* King's Field 5, a few weeks ago on the ole PS4.

It"s super neat. Like the letter says, it's staggeringly That Game as far as being a Souls precursor goes.

What's more interesting to me though is the very idea of going back to play old console games that aren't the "best" ones.

I loved what I played Eternal Ring. Caught myself going down the hole of praising old game design vs modern games.

The thing is though playing it in 2020 as a novelty, totally in a vacuum from what else was contemporary, is such a different experience. I'm going to bet that playing that game back at PS2's launch would have very possibly sucked.

Sure you"ll have the folks being like "No man you don't get it. Here's how you enjoy one of these Field-likes" and I'll even say they're probably right. But at the time? I think most people would have bounced the fuck off that game. Also I don't think it'd compare favorably to it's peers.

I think bad games can really benefit with age. Well maybe not bad but rather the 6 and 7's out of 10 if you will. Sometimes it's way easier to over look somethings flaws in favor of whatever it's doing right when your base line is that you're about to play some "old thing" without any context of time and place.

Also speaking of FromSoft; shoutout to the Another Centuries Episode games. So good.
