Sorry Brad but you are 100% wrong about the MK ending thing. The triggers online must be incomplete but there are definitely different versions of it.

I don't want to put spoilers in the comments but suffice to say I beat that game and didn't know about some of the things you mention happening until days later when they came up online.

Unless they patched the ending, which is possible, you can get a final scene that only has the two characters in it.

I believe the characters without a "series" are from unreleased, also unannounced, games. At least that was the initial pitch back when this and Blade Strangers were announced.

I've no idea if Helen or bootleg Belmont are still getting games though.

@chrisflavin: It's an american thing. I believe in the rest of the world Smarties are the M&M style chocolate candies and the things Brad mentioned are called Rockets.

I think Rorie is misunderstanding the AI thing.

It's not identifying the actual Mona Lisa, or whatever object, based on your drawing. It doesn't know what the Mona Lisa is. What it knows is that everytime it prompts a human to draw the Mona Lisa the result is the same generic human shape in a rectangle.

So to the AI that IS the Mona Lisa, which is how it correctly identifies the drawing.

It's literally like teaching a child. You tell a child what a dog is enough times they'll be able go proudly proclaim "Dog!" when they see one.

Similarity if you teach a kid the a dog is a "Cat"; A - you're an asshole and B - they'll incorrectly, but "correctly", identify dogs as "cats". Just like how generic face in frame = Mona Lisa. It only knows what it's been told.

Over time, with enough samples, the AI will be able to differentiate between these simple shapes and the actual Mona Lisa. But it takes time.

The existence of non-swappable tile sets is very exciting. Forget Mario 2 (or not. Mario 2 please) they could do anything as DLC now. Provided it's a tile based set.

The way this game works already there's no real reason you couldn't sell premium tool sets for things like Metroid, Kid Icarus or, who am I kidding the real exciting stuff is all third party. Mega Man, Castlevania, Contra, Ninja Gaiden, hell Monster World, Faxanadu, whatever!

The engine in theory could support any kind of 8-bit tile set. Sell them as premium dlc for $20 bucks a pop and print money.

So what struck me while watching this was the idea of; But what else is there? In the genre I mean to say.

Not the biggest FPS person but a lot of that boils down to how few of the them are made that I'd have any interest in.

Modern military, online centric team multiplayer, battle royales, mmo-lite loot shooters, etc. No thanks. Like, sure whatever, I'm ok with you dang kids playing on my lawn. Have fun. I'm just not going to play with you.

So what's left? Doom and Wolfenstein? I suppose Far Cry as well. Maybe I'm forgetting a ton of games but...? BioShock is dead, Titanfall seems dead, Half-Life is dead, even stuff like Alien vs Predator seems gone.

I'm the last person to bemoan the death of the glut of mediocre FPS's that flooded the PS3/360 generation but it's still kind of sad that this style of game is so, I dunno, on life support?

Like I'm sure Doom Eternal and Wolfenstein The Next One will be great, you know the other Bethesda/ID games, but again. What else is there?

Because this seems surprisingly unappealing for having so little direct competition.

I think people have a weird tendency to over logic the idea of Aliens. Vinnie hits it best with the idea of "some dude" being the first visitor just because in any civilization the "dudes" are going to be the vast majority over any kind of official organization.

But people always want to imagine either a sinister invasion or benevolent intervention. Why? I always ask the question in reverse; what would humans do if they found a technologically inferior planet-bound species? We don't have a good track record in that field terrestrially. But it might not even mean war or enslavement. We might just butt in and declare ourselves as "here now" and force them to accept the new reality of trade and tourism. I'm thinking literally of Japan and the western arrival there.

I'd also like to dismiss the idea that they'd see us as a mess and just walk away. Or scuttle away. Spaceship away really. Humans would never in a zillion years be able to do that. Even if the aliens had no interest in our resources and understood we were too shitty and destructive to be friends with, you'd at least leave a lookout to catch footage of us.

Finding any other sentient life in space? Unless there's a ton of it out there no species, regardless of disparity of technological and cultural advances, would just shrug their shoulders and walk away.

You know what I think humans would do? Even if actual formal contact was forbidden by "the powers that be"? Safari's. Catch and release maybe. Rich assholes would pay to be flown in whereupon you'd abduct some poor fool who is alone, probably of low visibility, someone who wouldn't be missed or has no platform to say "I was kidnapped by aliens!" and be believed.

You'd snatch 'em up as coldly and thoughtlessly as anyone you've ever seen bag and tag an animal on Discovery Channel, Let your client get an up close looksey. Get to pet the "animal" while it's drugged out and defenseless, pull back the gums to see the teeth, poke some other holes because anatomy & science and when they get bored and want to go back to the hotel you drop the local off back dirt side, maybe tag 'em for an easy find the next trip out, maybe for some scientific data too, and call it a day.

Or the aliens just Stalker us because we don't even register as living things to their psychology. But Humans? We're the worst. If we found aliens we'd never leave them alone. Or rather "Humans" would never leave them alone, as in some number of people, whereas like 75%+ of the general populace would go "Oh neat" then proceed to continue not caring about anything but themselves.

I normally don't pay much mind to this stuff, tons of people work super hard at Gearbox, but man. I just don't feel ok financially supporting Gearbox at this point. It's crazy. They need either a total management overhaul or else all those nice folks need to find new jobs at a less shady company.

Either way I'm ok skipping Borderlands 3. It's a shame but damn man. There's a line. You can't decry Pitchford then pay into him getting a huge payout when BL3 sells well. It's hypocritical.
