GOTY 2016: Gary Traveled for Half a Year, Sue Me

Look, its been a weird year. I graduated college in May of 2016, and immediately had a ton of free time (and disposable income) to catch up on some games. I came at video games hot and heavy for the first six months of 2016. And then? I took a new job, and left for Ireland until December. Which, of course, neutralized almost all ability to play games due to region locking.

So, I missed a bunch of stuff. I'm sorry Final Fantasy 15, Gears 4, Forza Horizon 3, Let It Die, Overwatch, Overcooked, Jackbox Party Pack 3, and so many other I bet fantastic games that just couldn't get finished or time put into to justify on this list. I even delayed a week into 2017 to give myself as much time as possible to fit what I could. Sometimes, things just don't work out.

2016 was also the year of really cool looking indie games being...maybe not so great? I was really looking forward to Oxenfree and it fell flat. Firewatch, same idea. Inside was art-house and interesting, but outside of one (maybe two) cool twists, it was just sort of there? At the same time, there were some really awesome indies that both made the list and had to be left behind. Pony Island was a fun romp, and Amplitude was exactly what I wanted out of that game, if maybe a little short.

In short, we're all happy to leave 2016 in the dust. But that doesn't mean some awesome games didn't come out. Finally, shout outs to Ratchet and Clank for being the best game I had already played but was incredibly pleased with how the remake came out. Wasn't new enough to jump onto the list, but boy was it awesome.
