C4's Top 10 of 2016

2016 was a great year for games, shockingly so, as at the start of the year the number of games I was excited for started and ended with Uncharted 4.

Late to the Party Award: The Division- started this game in October after they had fixed it so I had a much-improved experience over what people who played it a launch seemed to have.

Wish I played more Award: Overcooked- it's a couch co-op game and spent most of my couch multiplayer time playing Dr Mario on my NES classic mini, will need to play a bunch of this in the future

Best 2015 game of 2016 Award: Jackbox party pack's- got many non-gaming Family members to play a heap of this over the Christmas break, it transcends interest in games and ability and is just fun.

Best Open World: The Division- gotta love derelict new york.

Most played game that didn’t make the list award: F1 2015/2016 these F1 games sucked for years and I've bought and played once several of them, the last two have been outstanding I got 2015 as a present and played through several seasons, but my brother got a simulator setup and 2016, yes I'm the fastest of my family and my brother social circle. great specific fun.

List items

  • The best Game of the best Series of the modern era. this game is so good it actually makes me worry about the mental faculties of those who don't love this game. people saying this series should be laid to rest are wrong it just needs 4-5 years (next console generation) before the next game and I can't wait to play it. Naughty dog can't put a foot wrong

  • Multiplayer game of the year and the biggest surprise id never even herd of it and after it was released I played a whole bunch of it, nobody fucks with my Reinhardt and Genji is cancer

  • what a joyous game this is, I loved the SNES and ps1 harvest moon games but hadn't played a game of this style in 15 years, at one point this year I was playing this on my laptop while listening to a bombcast while on a cruise in the south-china sea off the coast of Vietnam.

  • I grew up in the locations (Byron bay & the gold coast) featured in this game and am a devout car guy. If it wasn't for the festival hubs (I hate crowds) I'd be pretty sure I'm this games muse. another of my play while listening to podcasts games.

  • Co-op game of the year. co-operative games are my favorite kind of game and this is a fantastic one, I played this well after it released and they had fixed it.

  • I started this game at 10 pm, by 4 am the next day I was completing my second play through, back to back. its down this far because the second playthrough was to make opposite choices to see how it affected the game. it made almost no difference, that is the only reason it's not top 3. Great game. would love a nondirect sequel.

  • Expected this to suck like duke forever did. instead, we got an outstanding modern doom game. it was oversold and didn't quite live up to the game of the year hype I was expecting but it is a great game none the less

  • unbelievably fun. watching somebody play this only gets you 5% of the experience, its got style and plays great and actually makes you feel good when you pull off the action puzzles. the VR version is the only VR game I am excited to try. finished in a single sitting

  • only played a lot of the first and second mission of hitman and never got back to the latter missions, love what I played and have always loved hitman games, it would probably be much higher had I played more

  • finished this in a single sitting, loved it respect it and would recommend it. didn't think it would be better than limbo but it blows it out of the water.
