Liked DDLC, disliked how it used mental illness and abuse as a shortcut for building sympathy with its characters. It was a very effective horror experience but played too deeply into the tropes about mental illness without doing anything to subvert/comment on them.
speaking of high-stress dates: on our second date, my partner and I got hopelessly lost in the woods. We were walking for about two hours, and then we started hearing gunshots and realized there were hunters doing their shoot things. It was very stressful, but we also learned that our problem-solving styles are very similar and their drive to get things done was balanced out very nicely by my laid back energy. It was one of the better dates I've ever been on, 2/10 do not recommend.
I'm glad SW3 got rid of the loot. So many games have loot, and so much of it is total garbage. SW2 was overstuffed and grindy. Give me a tight campaign over loot schlock any day.
Breakdown is SO CLOSE to being incredible. SO CLOSE. The combat system is so incredibly thorough and in-depth, but it does itself a disservice by always putting you against enemies and obstacles that are meant to exploit your own lack of abilities. Every time you get a new set of moves or powers, the game shifts the goalposts and you're at a disadvantage again. It also does a piss-poor job of explaining or tutorializing any of its deeper moves which sucks. I had to look up a YouTube video on the combat because the game ends in a buck-wild-ass difficult melee wave defense section against the strongest enemies and the game does basically zero to prepare the player for it.
New theme is great! Carrying the motif across the whole thing makes it feel much more familiar without compromising the vibe. I said it in another thread but it sounds how Nidhogg 2 looks and feels and it is awesome.
Good on Jess for pushing back on her game. It's a very cool little homage with great style and it does more than just what it's expected to do and it was a bummer to have Jeff drag it, especially when it has so much heart.
