When I was playing a lot of Skate I would often think in real life "What an awesome grind that would be" etc. But other than that, no.

Most of the anime shows I would recommend have surely already been mentioned. I have one kind of obscure one though: Record of Lodoss War. It might not be for everyone, but I really love it. It's kind of an RPG-inspired anime.
