@stordoff: It wears the incredibly anime aspect and over the top combat on it sleeves just like Yakuza does. There is even a heat action in Kiwami that is taken straight from Fist of the North Star. Even the heat auras that has been around since the first game on PS2, with no real presence outside of the combat, is taken from Fist of the North Star. All I'm saying is that if you're looking for the serious stuff you'll still get it from the game's story. The only real difference is the artstyle, but I like that it's more of a balanced style between the manga esque aesthetic and that of Yakuza.

@stordoff: In Yakuza 5 you can do a heat action, where Saejima punches the ground so hard it erupts and blows enemies up in the air. Not to mention the Revelations with all of the crazy people doing wacky super human stunts. Plus the characters all survive fatal injuries in the games, especially in 0, a lot. Let's not kid ourselves here. Yakuza isn't any less crazy than something like Fist of North Star. Saying Fist of the North Star isn't serious is ridiculous to me, have you seen the characters and the way they talk? They are all as ridiculous serious as Kiryu Kazuma, the world's most serious looking man. A man who literally punched a tiger into unconsciousness.

@boozak: Probably because the amount of content in Hokuto. I've noticed a distinct lack of content in Kiwami 2 and 6 compared to its predecessors. The emphasis on realistic physics and tight graphics comes at the expense of content. Plus 60 fps can still make the game look beautiful and personally I find 0 to be a very pretty game despite everything.

I'm pretty sure this game is gong to be quite serious with it having an original story, and the characters being portrayed by the Yakuza cast. The way all the male characters look and act very serious is straight out of Yakuza. It actually makes this match between Yakuza and Fist of the North Star seem all the more reasonable. Yakuza isn't just silly in its side content, the combat is also incredibly ridiculous. One of the reasons I don't like Yakuza 6 myself, the combat is less flashy.

@puchiko: The game runs on the Yakuza 0 engine, the aesthetic is closer to that of a Yakuza game than the manga. The story is original, which means it'll most likely fall in line with that of an original Yakuza title as well, given that the Yakuza studio is developing it. Plus all the characters are voiced by various Yakuza voice actors from the series, and knowing the Yakuza studio the city will be as sprawly and detailed as that of Kyoto in Ishin and Kamurocho.

I guess I can understand missing the modern Japan setting, but I didn't really mind the change with Yakuza Ishin myself. But that's just me, Yakuza is more than just its setting.

You only started caring about it once they revealed a Kiryu skin for the main character? I mean the entire game is Yakuza in anything but name.

Hopefully not before Hashino’s fantasy project. I expect Wada to direct the next main title, which means it’ll probably be on same level of quality as those watered down spin-offs.

@boozak: It’s a popular fantasy gacha game in Japan, which is getting a full fledged action rpg title from Platinum now.

Mobile properties becoming big budget titles is the kind of development I wanna see too.
