I think goty talks are pretty great as is, but could be improved mainly by seeking everyone's opinion on things here and there to make sure two people don't dominate a conversation for a category. I've seen arguments for adding voting in the past, and it could be because I love arguments so much but I strongly dislike the idea. The really fun part of game of the year podcasts is when an unexpected game wins it all due to a good argument rather than the one everyone expected. It's just no fun when you go into goty knowing what's going to win for sure weeks in advance, like I thought with MGS and DOOM.
Listen to both, but I listen to the beastcast asap the morning it's out and the bombcast sometimes waits a few days to make room for other podcasts. I'm more positive on the current bombcast run than others, but it's pretty hard to deny that the beastcast is crushing it consistently right now.
This is the hottest, and most incorrect, of takes imo. I mean at the end of the day have your opinion but this is among the most baffling gaming opinions I've ever seen
I think crash 2+3 control better than say, Mario 64 when played today (definitely not galaxy or 3D Land/World, which are some the best controlling games ever) but other than that there's really no comparison. I'd say maybe crash 2 is better than sunshine but other than that, nah.
Also, idk where you're getting that people think 3D Land/World are lesser entries, I definitely heard that when they were first announced, but I don't think I've seen really any opinion about them that isn't absolutely glowing in retrospect. (I have no idea what the poor man's Zelda comment is getting at, too)
Shadow of Mordor was a perfectly fine open world game with the nemesis system bumping it into a pretty good one that was flawed but really interesting. 2014 was a really weak year for games, and I understand why it won Giant Bomb's award bc it was the one that most people were able to say was okay enough to win. It's a shame though, because Bayonetta 2 is the best character action game of all time and it sucks that because the story is kind of inconsequential it was pretty much out of the conversation entirely.
@bisonhero: Bayonetta 2 is the pretty easy choice here, but I think Wolfenstein, Shovel Knight, and even stuff like Dark Souls II, BoI: Rebirth, and Diablo III: UEE were far better and more enjoyable games than Shadow of Mordor. That's not to say it's a bad game, but it was just the perfectly agreeable choice, which was honestly disappointing from GB, especially considering how both Best Game picks for the best two years didn't end up to be the one that most people thought were the easy, agreed-upon choice months before GoTY happened. (It's also why I think PUBG is gonna be the surprise GOTY winner this year, but that's a different story).
