So I found out my college course exam is all multiple choice.

Does anyone else think thats making it a little too easy?

I mean I'm all for it because it means less stress on my part but I feel that since its a college course I'm taking, it should be a little more than just multiple choice.  I mean whole year of some pretty hard math and now they just make it Mulitple choice lol. The course i am taking this year is Principles of Engineering, which the course outline was designed by the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Has anyone here ever been given a college exam thats all multiple choice?

Yes, it was awesome. The final question was "Have a nice summer" And all the options were smiley faces. No lie. Best exam ever.

Sometimes multiple choice tests are difficult because they are "choose the best answer" multiple choice tests.  I've had that on a few of my college Econ and college Physics exams (both of which were all multiple choice).  Give me short answer any day.

The hardest multiple answer questions are the ones that want you to choose the best answer, even if it doesn't seem totally correct.

Actually the hardest is when there are 5 or 6 options.

I am personally shocked anytime a test isn't all multiple choice. It sucks, but gives you a chance to guess.

I got all 2 A's and 2 B's last semester and did virtually nothing. So no, college is the perfect difficulty.

Why does everyone like multiple choice? The test are ALWAYS harder, i freaking hate it. They give you a harder question than normal with four options that are exactly the same, then only give you 1 mark because its multiple choice, oh and the amount of questions you do is increased by a factor of 3 or 4.

My course is entirely essay based, but i think multiple choice has a role in numerical exams. When it would be harder to distinguish between 4 possible answers than just follow a formula and achieve a single one then its obviously pushing the candidate. But if for example I was given essay questions it would be impossible to do that and would make my course too easy.

I've had multiple choice exams in University and believe it or not, they're not as easy as you think.

I don't know if this is to make it easier on the students or easier on the examination board. Either way, I think it's a bit of a joke, but then again, I think the same with most exams.

Exactly.  When there are letters A-F on the scan-tron and you're doing high level finance, shit gets real.

Most of the time when it's qualitative the answers are all virtually identical.  Words like shall, always, never, sometimes, will, all, some or never become integral to the meaning and interpretation of the question.

When you're doing quantitative exams, the professors usually go out of their way to find and list all of the commonly found wrong answers to throw students off.

Personally I find a well written multiple choice exam to be a lot harder than a essay. Blair gave a good example. Another example: physics. A tough physics multiple choice is really tough if you aren't really knowledgeable about the subject.

People didn't do very well on my multiple choice exams when I taught; it's all about making the wrong answers convincing.  Yes, there's a 20-25% chance someone will get lucky, and that's happened to me.  But if they don't know anything, they'll still fail.
