As a Conan The Barbarian fan, I feel like bitching about the character designs in this B-fantasy-esque videogame is kinda dumb. But I also feel like shooting back a response to imply that the person complaining about it is gay for bitching about it was much, much dumber.

This whole thing is dumb and not in the good way that Dragon's Crown makes me feel.

Again, that's not what the image implies. It's a play on a stereotype the Japanese have of the western male audience's aesthetic tastes, more specifically, a love of macho men on a visual, not sexual, level.

I feel like if it was a response to the western appreciation of big burly men, it also would have included, like, big huge ridiculous armor and guns and shit, ala Gears of War. Because that's what you often see in western videogames.

Making all the dudes naked, embracing, winking, etc makes it seem to me like a pretty clear jab using homosexuality as a joke, but I guess without the artist's say we can't know for sure.

Holy shit, what the hell. First Boston Bombing, then that humongous explosion in Texas, and now this. Bad week. Bad bad week.

Jesus fucking holy shit, that video is jaw droppingly terrifying. That explosion was enormous, god damn. My hopes are with all the folks in the area or with loved ones down there.

I haven't watched those movies but isn't Jennifer Lawrence's character in Silver Linings Playbook supposed to be literally suffering mental illness?

Yes. Unlike your usual Manic Pixie, she's pointed out to be mentally unbalanced in a way that isn't played as "cute" or cool or whatever. She and Bradley Cooper both have some serious issues and are on medication for most of the movie. It's refreshing that they don't get shit strictly for taking medication or being a little messed up, either, but it's stuff that they do have to deal with.

See, that's what even empowered my disliking of this type of character: The man and woman in that movie both had mental issues, but only the woman was acting like a total crazy spasmodic ass when talking to the man. Why wasn't Cooper equally moody and bipolar with her? Sure he was crazy on his own, but when he was with her he tried to be a little stable and sincere, whereas she kept fucking with his mind, shifting between being nice and hostile like a bouncing ball. I really couldn't enjoy the movie because I wanted to tell her to choke and die, it's not interesting or enjoyable at all when females go all Manic Pixie, it always feels like the character is trying too hard and needs a slap.

Why does this overused, no longer original trope get praise and win awards?

I think it was because for Jennifer Lawrence's character, Bradley Cooper was the object of her affections and she is very strongly focused on him, so her behaviour towards him is more intense than otherwise (and we only ever see her when she's around him, pretty much, so we don't know what she's like on her own). For 95% of the movie, though, Bradley Cooper is focused entirely on his estranged wife. That's where his "crazy" is particularly focused so he's not equally moody and bipolar as she is when the two are together because it's a one sided relationship for most of the movie. Although, I think I disagree with you anyways - he definitely is moody as fuck. His repeated bringing up about her being more crazy/differently crazy than he is, prying about her sexual escapades and inability to stop bringing up her dead husband was all pretty jackassy shit to do.

Anyways, I didn't think either of them were too annoying and I definitely wouldn't tell either of them to choke and die because they're both mentally unstable and on meds and I guess I empathize with them and their off-kilter behaviour. I have a lot of sympathy for people who have mental health issues in that way and I think that Lawrence's character doesn't fit in with an average MPDG because of her un-romanticized personality and behaviour.

It's a real uplifting movie, check it out.

This community is the one with the least amount of negativity. I post on other forums, but they're gradually wearing me out with the amount of arguing and dumb hate and spite in them - it's kind of mindblowing that for a place as big as giantbomb, most folks are pretty pleasant. In other places, posters are always shitting on each other's views, launching personal attacks, or otherwise being assholes but surprisingly not here (mostly)!

also you guys make me laugh.
