Does the dissonance between what someone is and what they want to be prevent you from being capable of empathizing with them or allowing them the same level of dignity that you would afford anyone else?

A transman is someone who was born female but identifies as male. Because they identify as male they wouldn't also identify as lesbian because that would imply that they are a woman. They can be gay though.

@video_game_king: Male and female are biological terms, but for all species with a sexual divide. Man and woman are the same but specific to humans. A transsexual is just a man who wants to be a woman or a woman who wants to be a man. Sometimes they undergo surgery which at best makes them something in between.

well, male and female are more descriptors than actual words. man and woman is fine, if you really need to clarify then just say transwoman, ciswoman etc.

Now hold on. I fullheartedly believe there are instances of actual sexism in the video game industry (from a real people standpoint, not a fictional character standpoint), and that they are dealt with through HR and through mediation and through dismissal in a fair and just way. That doesn't mean there is no sexism, it means that sexism is not 'ingrained' or encouraged. Perhaps that was your point.
