I have a Nvidia 660 ti. It broke in January, I moved in February, and then I finally got it fixed in March. It has now broken again. My repair request has been approved, but I can't decide if I should have it repaired or just get a new graphics card. The warranty lasts until September.
Here are my options.
1. Full upgrade to 970 or AMD equivalent. This is the absolute highest cost card I could afford to buy. I would have to mess with my budget a bit, but I could make it work. One of my concerns is about Directx12. Even though this card has support for Directx12, I suspect that it will only get the version .0 features that come out at the launch of Dx12, and not get many of the new features added later. The card was created before Dx12 has even been finished.
2. Partial upgrade to 960 or AMD equivalent. About $150 cheaper, but still a significant upgrade. It would also be much less of a blow to find out in a year or so that I need a new card to take full advantage of Dx12.
3. Wait it out. Have my graphics card repaired and hope that it lasts until new cards come out.
Getting a new card would probably be faster. This is significant because I am about 45 hours into the Witcher 3, and I want to get back to playing it soon.
I should also note that I won't need to upgrade anything else in my computer at this time. I have a core i5 3570k processor, which is just fine for at least a couple years. The 660 Ti is 150 watt card, while the 970s are 145 watt cards, so my PSU will be fine.
Am I worrying about the Dx12 stuff to much? From what I hear it sounds like a major upgrade, but that could just be Microsoft/Nvidia/AMD trying to generate hype.
