A ranking of Final Fantasy games by me.

Ranked list of pretty much every Final Fantasy game. The only exceptions are games that actually belong to the SaGa and Seiken Densetsu series, as well as some of the really minor spin-off games. And that's saying something since I've got some Grade A bullshit on this list. Also, any game that I haven't played, or hasn't been released will just be out of order at the bottom of the list with "TBD" as the description.

For the most part you should be able to see the main entries in the series early on in the list, as I consider most of them better than a lot of the spin-offs, but that's not always the case. Just in case, here's just a straight ranked list of the main numbered entries in the series, excluding any sequels, but including the MMOs:

1. Final Fantasy Tactics

Depending on the day of the week, it's either this or Chrono Trigger for my favorite game of all time. So yeah, you tell me.
2. Final Fantasy VI

Preference for VI is the GBA version. SNES/Super Famicom are classic and great as well. The Playstation version isn't great. And the iOS version is hot garbage.
3. Final Fantasy IV

For IV, I prefer The Complete Collection on PSP as the definitive version of the game. GBA if you're feeling nostalgic. Can't really recommend Final Fantasy II US anymore because it's just kind of a mess, classic though. The DS version of the game is different though.
4. Final Fantasy IV

(DS): The DS version of IV is quite a bit different than the other versions of the game. It's not just a remake, but changes some fundamental things about the game. I might not like it quite as much as the original, but it's still up there for a favorite FF.
5. Final Fantasy X

I imagine the HD remake is the way to go with this now, but I've yet to play it. I feel like you either really like X or you're just kind of okay, or straight up dislike the game.
6. Final Fantasy VII

I'd still say VII is vastly overrated, but that doesn't mean it isn't an amazing fucking game. Truly one of the best.
7. Final Fantasy VIII

You either "get" VIII or you don't. I "get" it, and I "like" it. YMMV
8. Final Fantasy IX
9. Final Fantasy V

Do yourself a favor and avoid the Playstation release. It does the game a disservice. The iOS version looks like shit too. The GBA version however is pretty incredible. I really didn't like V when I first played it on Playstation. However, since playing the GBA version, and participating in The Four Job Fiesta I've really grown to appreciate it.
10. Final Fantasy X-2

Another game you either love or hate. I'm a fan.
11. Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn
12. Final Fantasy XI Online

I have a weird relationship with XI. Was a big part of my life for the first couple years it was released. Then hated it for years, and years. Reconnected with it again a couple years ago and we've kissed and made up.
13. Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift

I like it slightly more than the original Tactics Advance, but they're pretty close.
14. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

Kind of a bastardization of Tactics, but it's still a solid game in its own right.
15. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

Surprisingly great. Arguably the best spin-off to come out of VII.
16. Final Fantasy XII

I don't hate XII, but I've never once been able to replay it all the way through. Ranks pretty low for me personally.
17. Final Fantasy III

Have only played the DS version. Nice introduction to the job system, but kind of lackluster aside from that.
18. Final Fantasy IV: The After Years

Not the brightest moment in the series, but I guess I just can't resist seeing more Final Fantasy IV. Also has some interesting mechanics.
19. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest

This game gets a lot of shit, and while I might not think it's one of the best entries in the series, it's still a fun little game. Great soundtrack.
20. Final Fantasy XIII-2

This is probably the best of the XIII games, but that's kind of like saying it's a decorated turd.
21. Final Fantasy XIII

If it weren't for some fairly decent combat mechanics I'd consider this one of the worst games in the series. It still kind of is. XIII and its sequels are everything that's wrong with modern Final Fantasy and Square Enix. I have opinions about this.
22. Theatrhythm

Charming.
23. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles

Quirky, charming game. Pretty good except for that dreadful bucket mechanic.
24. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King

Cute, fun, addictive.
25. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As a Darklord

26. Final Fantasy

Not a whole lot of love for the original game. Didn't really jump on until IV.
27. Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light
28. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates

These other Crystal Chronicles games never clicked though.

30. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers

Lots of promise. Poor execution.
31. Final Fantasy II

Out of the main series this is the game I've played the least, but it just seems kind of awful.
32. Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings

Weird.
33. Dissidia: Final Fantasy

Love the concept. Execution? Not so much. Borderline unplayable garbage. Such a shame.
34. Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy

35. Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII

Horrendous.
36. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

If it weren't for some really offensive mobile games, this would easily be my least favorite Final Fantasy game. It's fucking dreadfully awful. I never want to see Lightning's dumb face again. Uhg.
37. Final Fantasy: All The Bravest

I mean, we're all in agreement right? This is the worst game in the series? Okay, moving on.
