Psycotic Quick Reviews: Netflix for the PS3 and some movies

Well it's been a while since I've done a review, and i didn't feel like reviewing the recent anime or games, so the PS3's netflix app is going under the microscope, though far warning, it's a crappy microscope

The disk based Netflix app allows you to stream movies from netflix to your TV using your PS3, a consume a large amount of bandwidth in the process.

Problems
It consumes a lot of bandwidth, with a good connection, you will be able to stream a movie with no interruptions, but when using a wireless connection it's hard to get any thing done on other devices using the same connection, a problem that's not present when using a laptop and netflix's instant play feature.
Controlling can be a bit annoying, Using the standard PS3 controller for normal movies i found can be frustrating, especially since if the L2 or R2 triggers are so much as brushes again something the movie will either skip to the next scene or restart the scene your on, while using this i was careful to avoid this so i don't know what the trigger buttons do (Professionalism!!!) i was able to uncover another announce, if the left joystick is for what ever reason nudge up, the movie will stop, and you will go back to the info screen, you will then have to wait for the program to load up the movie again to resume (though it is faster then the first rendering). i noticed that pressing the triangle will bring a menu for dvd commands, though i haven't tested to see if these work during movies (Professionalism!!!).
Searching, ya can't do it using the PS3 as far as i can see, from the looks of things if you want to add a movie to your watch instantly Q, you have to search Netflix on a computer. (to do this you have to find a movie with the watch instantly feature and add it to your Q).
Not the complete lists, they for some reason don't have complete lists, ok the is mostly understandable considering that for most genres there are a hundred titles, and navigating through that can take some time, for some one them, like anime you got to wonder why they don't have a complete list, on the site they have about 24, 25 anime titles available for the instant watch, but if you look at the anime section, they only show 13 titles, this bugged me.
10 to 15 second delay when pausing

Pros
DVD quality (though not blu-ray)
for the most part videos run smoothly
Set up is easy.

 Final verdict....
there will most likely be refinements eventually that will probably address most of these issues, so i'm not giving it one,

Now about some movies i've watched with netflix

Dead and Breakfast
This is a horror/comedy based of of a novel. the movie wasn't bad, though it wasn't that great either, most of the jokes fell flat, except for maybe some of the song jokes, and that one zombie ventriloquist, it also made it hard to take the horror aspect seriously, instead of dividing the movie into first half comedy, second horror (kinda like what they did with the behind the mask movie, where the first halve was a documentary about slasher films, while the second half was a slasher film), they tried to intertwine the two, there where six characters, but it seems that the personality was only divided into post posed Jon, and Melody, it was pretty hard to care about the other characters.
  3/5

National Lapoon's Dorm Daze 2
Of all the live action movies i've seen last year, Dorm Daze had to be one of my favorite, Dorm Daze 2 trys to change the formula, in the first one the set up was rather simple, and through a lot of misunderstandings and pure stupidity, the situation spirals down into a clusterfuck of School Rumble-esqe comedy (and the movie was really funny) This one however, This one however takes a long time to really get going, as a result the plot isn't nearly as convoluted as the first one, but things don't get that interesting till the play Death by Blackout starts, as for returning characters, i noticed about five or six, unfortunately two where the most annoying characters in the previous one (admittedly they are made slightly interesting when they are called lesbians, and the two start questing there sexuality.)
4/5

Ar Tonelico 2

Ar Tonelico 2,

Glitches: The game was incredibly buggy, from frame rate issues frame rate issues to a bug that would lock up the game if you didn't beat a boss within three turns.

Locliation: First for voice acting you had one of two options, A listen to the game's music has you read horrible translated text waiting for a rare moment of voice acting, B. mute the tv, play your own music while you play, and read the text. Then there was the glich that was only in the north American version where you had to beat a boss near the ending of the game within three turns

The combat was actually kinda fun. but hardly makes up for the games flaws

There're screwing with you, subliminaly

Well since it is Halloween i thought i'd wright an article about something that is truly scary, corporate mind control. In the 60s (not fact checked) some movies had adds for stuff that would show up for a instance, to fast for you to notice  consciously , but subconsciously you would notice it, this would cause an anxiety that would last till the person bought the item that was being advertised. a few years later the supreme court outlawed these forms of subliminal messages. but companies found a new for of subliminal messaging that has yet to be outlawed, taking a normal picture and hiding an image that could be considered sexual in it can create the same anxiety has the subliminal messages that most think about, here in this flash you can get some examples of these messages

so the next time your looking at an add think about whats really being advertised

Ar Tonelico 3 Annouced!

Gust has brought us a lot of great RPGs over the years from Disgaea, to Atelier Iris, and even Ar Tonelico. Ar Tonelico is a series about floating land masses held up by towers, alon g with this, a species of computer like women called  reyvateils are able to siphon power from the tower and turn it into powerful magic through singing.

The first game revolved around a pissed off reyvateil's attempts to wipe out humanity, and make a reyvateil paradise (real smart considering that all reyvateil are female and there's really doesn't seem to be any cloning technology in these worlds) Game play was tuned based but gave you the ability to charge up spells for greater effects. as you combod attacks with song magic your bonus gauge went up, not only would this increase the loot you get, but it would also allow your characters to use stronger attacks. The most interesting feature in the game though was the Cosmosphere, Here you could get new spells and learn more about the revyateil. these where funny an did give the revyateil some depth. they also the revyateil new costumes for combat.

The second one's story revolved around a groups attempt to say fuck physics, we will make mater from nothing (though is retrospect, i believe that what song magic is anyways) trying to make more land. this time around you could duel wield reyvateil for even higher charges, combat was more action bassed, the game gave you a time limit to attack, Enemy's would only attack reyvateil this time around, but as long as you had a revyateil you could null out all damage (remember kids, only guard attacks if they are head towards a hot girl, never to protect yourself) The combat in this one was the most interesting feature in this game, do to a crappy localization job from niss the bugged down the game, striped it of most voice acting, dulled down the wit of the Cosmoshere, and even added in some of the worst grammar seen in a game since F wing 0 ("Your strong will adds more power" actual quote from the game) this was a guilty pleasure for me because of how much i enjoyed the combat, but due to all the issues as a person who c0onsiders them self a fake gaming journalist there was no way i could recommended this.

So far they only new element of game play for the third one is the ability to custimize unique songs for combat, there are three ways i can see them doing this. 1st is like they did in the first one, allowing you to attach crystals to spells for greater effect, 2 actually having something like in Guitar hero that will allow you to make your own melody, but that seems way to complex, third and what i hope for most, the ability to have songs from you hard drive play as you cast for greater effect (i can see it know, "you know that chick sounds a lot like Brett Gurewitz ")

About my reviews concerning Xbox 360 titles

Soon i will start writing my review for Star Ocean The last Hope for the Xbox 360, but before that I would like to say something about my reviews concerning all Xbox 360 titles that I will review in the future. None of my reviews for 360 titles will factor in the online play. The reason for this is that there aren't enough 360 exclusives that I'm interested in to merit paying for online.

Psycho's 2009/10 Must haves

Well here's my list for games that I consider must haves,

 PS3

 5. White Knight Chronicles: I love my RPGs, but this one looks to generic to get any higher

 4. Heavy Rain: This reminds me of Indigo Prophecy, a game i loved

 3. Uncharted 2. A action game with a sarcastic hero? sign me up

 2. Atelier Rorona. The Atelier Iris series has always given me hours of fun an i expect this to be no different (since the three iris games where basically the same game as far as mechanics go)

1. Ratchet and Clank Futures: A Crack in Time, Probably one of the funniest franchise of this generation. Each R&C game gives me a new reason the the franchise while reinforcing the previous reasons

360

 2. Alen Wake This looks like a fun and innovative survival horror game, so what if one of the innovations looks to be the removal of horror

1.Mass Effect 2. This shooter with RPG elements looks to be a vast improvement over the first while still maintaining what it it so fun, though hopefully you can have a more cynical character.

Multi-platform
no order here

Assassins Creed 2
Bayonetta
 Battlefield Bad Comapny 2
Dante's Inferno
  Final Fantasy XIII
 Dead Rising 2
Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontiers.

Wii

1. No More Heros 2

DS

1. Atelier Annie, for pretty much the same reason as Atelier Rorona
