@therealseaman: I do wonder if they'll ever release an arcade version for SF again. I don't expect it for SFV at this point, sadly.

It would certainly help me get into it because I have a lot of issues with the online and I've tried it on like 4 different connections now. Ignoring all of that though, S4 (assuming it gets one) will hopefully be an even bigger change up than AE. Let's see some bigger system changes and weird stuff for 2019.

@therealseaman: As I mentioned we're probably not going to agree on SFV as a game but allow me to at least debunk your assumption that the new v-triggers are not used (and it's not like Ultra 2s weren't used either).

  • Ibuki: Exclusively uses VT2
  • Guile: Both VTs are used
  • Rashid: both VTs are used
  • Menat: After only seeing VT1 for a while, you see VT2 being used by both Justin Wong and Infiltration now.
  • Necalli: Both VTs are used
  • Dictator: Both VTs are used
  • Ken: Both VTs are used
  • Kolin: Mostly uses VT2
  • Mika: VT2 is used by one of her best users.
  • FANG: mostly uses VT2
  • Chun-Li: both VTs are used
  • Dhalsim: both VTs are used

etc.

Hmm, maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention but from what I saw of CEO I swear I saw very little VT2s. I know Ultra 2s were used quite a lot, but most characters stuck with one ultra regardless of matchup (for some that still meant U1).

I want to like SF5 but it still lacks a little something. I'm going to give it another shot offline only if that arcade version ever actually comes out.

  • Is it in a bad state at the moment? Nah.
  • Do people all over the place still act like it is in bad state? Most definitely.

The problem is it's in a worse state than season 2/2.5 and people are noticing. Balance is whack and the new triggers are used less than the second ultras characters got in SSF4. Is it any small wonder we just had 2 Ibukis, 2 Cammys and 2 Menats in top 8 of CEO?

I'm curious about Sagat because they will either do something genuinely amazing or completely butcher the character.

And it's pathetic that Capcom continue to ignore the netcode problems, which were first encountered in the beta, 3 years ago (desync, one sided lag).

@therealseaman: MvC:I isn't SFV.

A lot of depth removed compared to their predecessors, poor story modes, questionable character choices and obvious budget constraints. It shares a lot in common.

@therealseaman: Safe to say we disagree on that part as well.

A lot of top players admit that and in Japan the game got the nickname "Duty Fighter". CPT is a powerful motivator. They've done a great job with it since its inception, but it should have a better game. MVCI didn't get on CPT and that game has less players than UMVC3 on Steam now.

@therealseaman: Agree to completely disagree!

OK but if it wasn't for the prize money it's obvious the game would have been dropped by now. SF5 wouldn't survive without CPT but SF4 did for a long time.

They should really try playing SFV again, it would do wonders for their understanding on the state of the game.

Yeah they can join the army of Cammy and Guile players. It's not in a good state, AE is worse than season 2. The sooner it goes away and an SF6 that actually has a development budget can replace it the better.

I don't even know how it has lasted this long, it's boring compared to 4 and most other fighting games that are currently relevant. Kudos, I guess, but consider me 100% alienated. The soulless eSports vibes make everything worse as well.

Was at Shinjuku South Taito Station again tonight, every USF4 cabinet was in use (16 cabs, 8 concurrent matches) with people waiting to play. Alive and well, too bad the best place to get high level USF4 play is out of reach for most of the world.

Maybe it's not a bug with GB's video output and more of an issue of personal taste. In the screenshot comparison posted in these comments, I MUCH prefer the top, "washed out" screen as much more realistic in terms of light-diffusion over the "we live in a cave and can't afford interior lighting" bottom-screenshot.

It's a typical color space problem due to incorrect settings. It's easy to replicate this scenario by using 16-235 on a PC monitor instead of 0-255. I think the other screenshot is a little too contrasty but it's on the right path.

Maybe some people like it better, though it's objectively wrong and you will be compromising the visuals. If it's washed out like this, it looks ugly but it's not as game breaking as running 0-255 on a TV, which crushes blacks and can make it very unpleasant to play games.

My TV is HDR (which I think can run full range), but the rule of thumb is 0-255 on a PC monitor and 16-235 on a TV, this will give you the correct image and you can fine tune it using in-game brightness settings. Running the incorrect setting is going to obscure the visuals to varying degrees of severity and cannot be fixed with in-game settings or display settings.

Consoles will automatically detect and should use the right setting, PC can vary as apps can independently use different color spaces (my VLC wrongly used 16-235 on my PC monitor) but most of them do use the right setting. My TV has the option for 0-255 and 16-235 so I'm guessing that for HDR panels you can use 0-255 without problems.

TL;DR - Run the correct mode and fine tune the brightness/contrast using in-game settings or elsewhere, this way you're not losing out on important shades of black/grey or making the content too dark beyond repair.
