It's strange that people in video game press still aren't aware this game was "released", albeit a very early version still in development, on Kickstarter about a year before it "debuted" (Dan's words) at E3 2016. The meme about it being a spiritual successor to Bioshock was made by people who didn't want to spend the 10 seconds to watch a gameplay video on YouTube. The frustration from it not being like Bioshock is completely disingenuous. There were thousands of videos and articles made about the game in its early stages. People weren't angry because they didn't have this ignorant view of what it was supposed to be looming over their heads. The game had been out for so long before E3 that I actually forgot about it until the trailer played. It seems lazy to simply guess what the nature of a game is and then get upset because the game isn't what you imagined it to be, all the while a complete explanation is within arm's reach.
@dasakamov: It's not a bug, it's an incorrect setup. Older LCD monitors were not equipped to deal with the full color range so options were created that narrowed the range. Some devices default to Limited Dynamic Range for compatibility. True white changes from #FFFFFF to #EBEBEB and true black changes from #000000 to #101010. Regardless of the color (red #FF0000), the color beyond the threshold will be erased and detail will be lost (#EB1010). That is objectively worse, especially when you are trying to create video content. Here is an example of the difference (assuming your display is correctly set).

You are going from 16,777,216 colors to 10,503,459, AKA more than a third of colors are lost. There isn't a reasonable scenario where lower is better, aside from a monitor not being able to display it and maybe lower file sizes which isn't the case because the videos GBE puts out are 8bit color.
@vinny@ybbaaabby The color levels on the video are really washed out. I think either the PC or your recording equipment is only set for limited dynamic range, 16-235, instead of a full 0-255.
This game is actually making me angry. For some reason people have this weird obsession with using irony in all the wrong places. Irony is supposed to be quick and used in jest. It is ironic to say you are fond of music and like Nickelback, it is not ironic to say you are fond of music and like Nickelback and have actually gone to 27 of their concerts. You are not making fun of the thing, you are the thing! You can't make an entire game with cringey voice acting and laugh it off as irony. All you accomplished was creating a game with bad voice acting.
It's crazy they still repeat that meme. They said it in the Bombcast when the game came out and had to correct it in a following episode. Shame it made it back into the GOTY series.
