It's really a lot of reasons why, most of them have been covered already in this thread, but to summarize

1. More storage

2. More power

3. Disc drive

4. Future proofing (eventually all TVs of a certain size will be 4K)

Honestly, I would be lying if I said I wasn't interested in having the Series S as a novelty. It looks cute and would be a great thing to just bring along somewhere. Just hook it up to a hotel TV, turn on your phone's WifFi hotspot to log in and you're good to go. I already have a Series X for our entertainment room, but a Series S would be great in my home office/gym where I spend most of my time every day. Now that you can play X-Cloud games on a PC, though, I may not need the extra box.

Every time I play FFX I have to look up how to do all the temple puzzles. They wouldn't be so bad except it takes so long to do everything. And yeah, the first 3/4 of the game is super linear and then it'll open up more.

I love blitzball as a concept, it's cool as hell. But as a mini-game, it sucks. Fuck blitzball.

I never came close to getting 100% in FFX, but I have done it in FFX-2 a couple of times. It's just so much more fun and engaging. It's a true sequel that doesn't have to waste time introducing the world and most of the characters. You also are no longer in a world that just has a feeling of imminent doom hanging over everyone's head with Sin being a constant threat.

@alistercat: Overall there isn't much different between the two Xbox controllers. I really like the textured grips on the new Xbox Series controller and the rumble seems substantially more powerful. What I don't like is the clicky feel and sound on its D-pad. It functions just fine, but I prefer the old model for D-Pad stuff.

Honestly, it's not that big of an improvement. If you can get a cheap Xbox One model that has Bluetooth in it, go for one of those and I think you'll be happy. It's what I use for what little PC gaming I do.

With the no upgraded internals, Nintendo maybe finally realized that splitting their user base (and development base) would be a stupid idea at this point in the cycle. Switch has been out 4 years. I would say they could keep going on this hardware for another year or two and put out its successor and not bother with a half-step like a PS4 Pro. I mean, they keep making money hand over fist with this thing and the new one is even $50 more. At this point in a cycle, we normally are taking about price cuts, not new more expensive models.

Nintendo has never been about graphics or raw power for their hardware or games. But eventually devs are going to start demanding more powerful hardware. Not that they are trying to put out new blockbuster, AAA games on the Switch, but it does become a bottleneck to innovation when you are developing for tech that was already outdated when it was released 4 years ago. It's like when the Atari 2600 was still getting games put out for it well into the late 80s. Like, yeah there's a huge install base of systems, but a lot of people want to move on to something better.

Honestly, the temptation to buy brand-new, full-priced games for me is just to keep up with the conversation. Yeah, I'm going to eventually want to play RE8, but I haven't even finished RE7 yet and I got that on sale for like $10. Listening to the hype around a game gets me excited, but only enough to add it to a wish list somewhere and wait for a price drop.

If I had all the time in the world or was a streamer or something, I would feel compelled to keep current. But I work full time and it wouldn't be smart to just buy a full-priced game when I know I don't have time to play it. The last game I got at launch was Demon's Souls and I got that on launch day with my PS5 and I sunk over 100 hours into it over the course of a few months.

My advice: Just wait for a price drop and play the stuff you already have in your library...unless it's a 1st party Nintendo game, then just buy it. That price might never drop.

@bladeofcreation: You're right, but Jeff didn't have the choice to leave. He started up GB with Ryan with the hopes to create the site they wish they could have made at GS and they were successful. And in '07-'08, the internet was a completely different place. Everything we got with early GB was stuff they built themselves. Now anyone has free, ready-made platforms to present their content and easy to use subscription platforms to monetize their work. The more I think about it, the more I'm surprised this mass exodus didn't happen years ago. Look at everyone leaving IGN, GS, GI and GB lately and you'll see that the future is no longer in game websites...and that's unfortunate.

And I can relate, I host a movie podcast (Here) with just me and I my wife. We don't do it to make money; we both have full time jobs. It's just fun for us and a way for friends and family to hear our voices twice a week. If somehow it becomes popular, great...if not, no big deal.

I don't know, maybe it's because I've been with GB since near the beginning that I still think that it's this scrappy upstart out to shakeup the world, but it's on its 2nd corporate ownership now and I can see how that gets to be old and the guys see how successful other people have been doing it on their own...and then they had their non-compete contract run out (or invalidate after the sale) and saw the opportunity to jump ship. I don't blame them. I've worked for a Fortune 200 company for 10 years, I can relate.

This is probably just jealousy talking, but it seems like the vast majority of people who leave big companies to go off on their own (e.g. KindaFunny, NoClip, etc) use the following that they garner from being associated with a large brand to build the new brand. Essentially using the company they are working for to gain fame and/or notoriety and then cash in. I mean, I would probably do the same, but I'm a nobody. There are a whole lot of other nobodies with zero following out there working their asses off who put out great content and are getting little to nothing out of it.

I'm happy I still get to hear from those guys, but I feel for the little guys out there who see this and think, "Man, must be nice to have a built-in audience and financial backing on Day 1".

I do miss the I Love Mondays videos, but I understand they were a little production intensive with being on the green screen and needing to read from a script...at least the later videos were basically just them with their phone cameras talking at their desks. Now you need to set up a video call for all involved and it just doesn't make any sense with everyone still at home. So, I understand not having Monday content unless it's something like Jan 'N' Juice. I think as long as the Upcoming section on the front page is up to date I'm good with Monday being a catch up day for me.

I've got a Dell 24" 1440p 165hz as my main monitor with a Dell 1080p 144hz as a secondary for watching media with a 1080 card...4k won't do you much good unless you go with a much larger monitor. If you don't go nuts with a video card, 1440p with a high refresh rate is the sweet spot right now on a budget.
