As of this morning, I have a FedEx tracking number, but no confirmed delivery date yet on my XSX. So far there's been no movement on my PS5 preorder even if my Demon's Souls disc has already shipped and is scheduled to deliver on 11/12...lot of good that'll do me if I have no system yet.
Oh, well...it's not like I took time off this week to play these things. I caught Covid last week and I'm quarantined at home working for this week and next week. I have the week of Thanksgiving off to play to my heart's content.
Based on what I've read from a couple people, we might be lucky that we haven't had our Target pre-order cancelled entirely.
I ended up securing a pre-order for both systems from Target and it shows a similar delivery window for both. The XSX is a window between the 11th and 16th...the PS5 is between the 13th and 18th. As of today (Sunday the 8th), neither of them have a shipping notification.
Extra context: I also per-ordered Demon's Souls for PS5 from Target, that already shipped and I have a tracking number showing that it should arrive on release day...*shrugs*.
EDIT: A few hours after I posted this, now the XSX is "Preparing to Ship".
My wife and her siblings/parents got together to buy us tickets to a Vikings/Packers Thursday Night Football game in Green Bay. I’m a big Packers fan, so naturally it was the greatest thing. Even better, they won the game in blowout fashion.
I believe that GB is on the side of most consumers here. Also, from a site stand point, I don't know how they really show off these new systems to begin with. Yeah, they can hook them up, go through the interfaces (which is always informative, IMO) and fire up the few games that are available at launch...then what? Stream old games from them? It'll be kind of a novelty for those who actually get the consoles to show them off, but with their limited capabilities, they can't stream higher than 1080p60 yet on consoles meant to go up to 4k120. That's not entirely their fault either. From a GB content standpoint, I can see how they might not be so excited to dive into a very shallow pool. And going forward, assuming they can get back into an office somewhere and get new gear from their new corporate daddies, I'm not sure if they invest all the way into capturing 4k footage to put up on the site because of the massive cost associated with that.
Listen, if you consider yourself a PC gamer and you're satisfied with what you've got for the time being, I would wait on the video card until there are PC games coming out that just don't run well. If you're itching to upgrade, spend some of that 30xx money on a Gen 4 NVMe capable motherboard and SSD. With the new console games being built around fast loading, you're gonna want to keep up with that rather than squeezing a few extra FPS.
If you've got the money to burn and you know you're going to buy a PS5 anyway, just get one if you can pay regular retail price for it and then sell your PS4. I ended up securing a PS5 and XSX preorder from Target. The only thing I plan on doing with them out of the box is playing Demon's Souls and then continuing to work through my backlog, but on more capable systems.
Never reward bad behavior...wait and use the money you would have been willing to pay extra for the systems and get some games/accessories instead. Follow the CAG guys and @Wario64 and they'll alert when online preorder stock gets replenished. Or, go to a local retailer (Target, BestBuy, WalMart, Sam's Club, Costco, Gamestop) and ask how they are handling in-person preorders and launch quantities. Get creative, especially if you're trying to acquire more than one.
When I got my entertainment center about 7-8 years ago, I thought it was a future-proof piece of kit I would never regret. Right now there's a 55" LG OLED on top of it and room for all my mini-consoles, plus all my current gen systems. I managed to secure a preorder for both new systems and I'm at loss as to where to position them.
As you can see, the Xbox is upright with room to vent out. I could remove the shelf above it and move the NES/SNES Classics somewhere else to make room for either of the new chonkers, but I'm worried about airflow if they end up being too tall.
The middle section has my receiver, the PS4 Pro and my center channel speaker. I believe it is just barely wide enough to fit the PS5 on its side, but with minimal airflow.
Then on the left is where I keep the rest of my smaller sized systems and accessories. Not impossible to move around, but not easy either. I never use my Switch handheld except when I'm travelling (which is never these days) and the Joycons are currently attached to the Ring Fit.
As much as I would like to move one or two of the smaller devices to the top of one of my standing speakers, we have cats who will most assuredly knock them down. Yet another reason to keep most everything locked up in here is for cat hair concerns.
So, I'm left with a question. Seeing as though these new systems should play all my old games (getting the disc-based boxes), I may not need to hold onto my current-gen systems much longer. Do I throw caution to the wind and just replace the systems as they are currently positioned or do I repurpose an old media stand currently holding nothing but board games and let the new systems breathe fresh air at all times? I think there would be more than enough room on there to hold one on each glass shelf, but I get concerned with dust and cat hair when devices are out in the open like that. What do you all think?
Unless you're totally strapped for cash, definitely get a netbook with a 6-cell battery. Make sure to also test out the keyboard and touchpad. Some netbooks have their SHIFT keys much smaller and in odd places...and the HP Mini netbooks have their touchpad buttons on the side of the pad, not below it. As far as brand goes, all of them pretty much have the same specs. I have a Samsung NC10 and I love it...just make sure to put Windows 7 on it :-)
