Games I played in 2015

These are the games I played in 2015 in the order I played them. Not necessarily from this year or completed.

List items

  • Picked up after the GotY podcasts. Lives up to the hype. Very fun.

  • The first game I played this year (I think?). A fun little two-stick shooter.

  • The "Classic 2000" version on Steam, though this game has been an old standby on my PC for a long time. Almost never play the campaigns, but the skirmish mode has been my go-to for letting off steam for over a decade.

  • An interesting combination of dungeon crawling and tower defense. Repeatedly screw myself over by spending resources to build up defenses to see how long I can hold out after I take the crystal to the exit, even though I don't have to do that. I will learn not to one day.

  • Turn-based stealth game. Just dinked around in it a little, not enough to come up with a real opinion yet. The folks at Klei seemed determined to do stealth games in new and interesting ways (after the success of Mark of the Ninja, who can blame them?).

  • Admit it: you live for when the orchestral part of the music kicks in and you feel like nothing can stop you...until those three battleships all fire at the same time and blow you out of the sky.

  • I don't know why I love this silly little game so much, but I do.

  • Warframe might be the first game I uninstalled because I played it too much. Clocked in 100+ hours since the quick look back at the beginning of the year (about a month ago). Need to not play it for like a week just to prove to myself that I can.

  • An "old" favorite on the PS3. I'm really bad at it after not playing it for two or three years.

  • Been meaning to play this one since it was on PS+ for free. Couple of hours in and I am liking it...despite the fact I keep throwing grenades when I mean to bring up the item menu.

  • A favorite of mine. My go to music game for years, and still one of the best music games on the market.

  • I have never played this game very seriously, but it is fun to poke around in every-now-and-then.

  • Little less than two hours in. Game is hard...as are most space sims in my experience (could just be that I am terrible at them). Second or third mission is your standard capital ship escort, and I keep getting wrecked at it. Will probably put more time in. Should also note that developer is in pretty much constant communication with the players via the Steam forum, which is pretty cool to see.

  • A weird little game that I picked up a few years back. Just starting playing it as I finally found the solution to a game breaking bug that kept my units from spawning in the 2nd level.

  • Had to immediately buy something made by the old Westwood blokes. Haven't had much chance to dig into this one, yet.

  • Played this one previously on PS3, and tried it again with the free Vita version (was it free because I already owned this game? I dunno). Not really a bad game...but kinda slow paced, which is weird for a two-joystick shooter, and just really isn't fun. Too bad.

  • I really do enjoy this game, but sometimes there is just too much going on onscreen to know just what is going on...which means that you die and you sometime just have no idea why.

  • Another old favorite. Never get too deep into the "build your own" empire stuff or whatever...just ride around running down bandit bands. What can I saw...I am the law.

  • A fun physics-based contraption game. Still in early access, but fun to build nonsensical siege weapons in (my favorite so far being my multi-teired cannon set up I dubbed "The Cannonnacle Choir". No, I don't think anyone will get the joke but me).

  • I come back to this one every once in awhile. Maybe this will be the year I get around to beating it.

  • This had been sitting in my Steam library for awhile. Fun for about an hour, but in the end it just wasn't really my thing.

  • Poked around in this for a few hours. After fighting off pirates and giant crabs, my boat got sunk by a large jellyfish. Kinda anti-climatic, really.

  • Man...MAN, this might be my favorite game of the year so far just off of art style alone. The whole thing SCREAMS Mike Mignola, and that is an awesome thing. Gameplay so far is pretty tough as most of my adventures come out nearly insane. Only one death so far...don't expect that to last.

  • Picked this up cheap on my Vita. Played it for a bit, but it just didn't do anything for me. Maybe it's just my terrible reflexes, but the "press X to land" just never seemed to be timed right. Whatever.

  • Another favorite of mine. I go back to it every so often.

  • This is my "I want to watch something but want to do something at the same time" game. I usually screw around on a Realm a friend of mine set up.

  • Because when is it not a good time to play some XCOM?

  • Tried to play the version on PS Vita. Motion controls are not a good idea when your controller is attached to the screen, and the touch screen controls didn't really seem to work for me. A shame, enjoyed the PS3 version.

  • Played this for a bit on Vita. Crazy load times on the handheld. Might screw around with it more, but might download it on PS3 and give it a go there.

  • Sooo...when downloading a game, I needed to free up some space. I MAY (or may not have) have deleted my barbarian that was a few acts in in vanilla Diablo 3. So...good thing I was going to upgrade to Ultimate Evil edition anyways?

  • 35 hours later, I still haven't beaten the Rebel Flagship on easy. I may be bad at this game

  • Had some fun with this, but these kind of platformers aren't really my kind of game. Played up until level 4 before I hit stuff that started to frustrate me, and figured I had enough by level 5. I'd give it 3/5.

  • Played through the tutorial. Seems interesting. Will likely play it more in-depth later.

  • I think it is safe to conclude that I am one of those people who don't enjoy the "Souls" series of games. I come to this realization after owning Demon's Souls since it launched, and having installed, uninstalled, and re-installed Dark Souls on my PC and 360 a time or two or three. Just not what I look for in a video game (which is usually a means to relax).

  • Kickstarter backer for this game. Played just over an hour of it thus far, and seems fun so far. Will play more later.

  • Had fun with this one for a few hours before I got a bit bored of it. May come back to it later, may not.

  • Picked this up as a free 'Games with Gold' title on my Xbox 360. Played for a little, wasn't very impressed given the amount of praise I've seen this title be given. Might give it another go, but I don't know.

  • I Kickstarted/Indiegogo'd this game, and have been having a good time with it.

  • A fun little diversion.

  • Didn't really like this one.

  • Got this game from a kind soul in another group I am in, as I had put it on my Steam wishlist after this was shown on some video or another on this site. Played it for a bit, but didn't really click with me. Gave up when it gave me an error with the ship building saying a block was in a invalid spot, despite the fact that the starting ship had a block in that same spot.

  • This was more interesting than I was expecting. Then again, the only trailer I had seen for it was a quick commercial on YouTube with YouTubers screaming in "scare-cams" in the corner. Will likely come back to this one.

  • Got the Steam version as a giveway from a Volition stream. Played the Xbox360 version way back when it first came out. The shooting doesn't feel great, but the destruction is still way fun. Also, totally forgot just the insane amount of enemy vehicles that will come after you at high alert.

  • Played the PS3 version of the game that was free with PS+. Not impressed. The art style looks good at first, but it kinda wears thin pretty quickly thanks to the game being very orange (maybe that's a step up from everything being brown, but not much of one). Other thing that killed the game was the load times. If you are going to have instant death everywhere, you need to cut those load times. Maybe I'm just spoiled, but having to sit there for 5-6 seconds, and then fail the same jump within seconds of getting back into game play to wait another 5-6 seconds for the game to reload just killed what enjoyment I had with this game.

  • Seven years late to the party on this one, but I am finally getting around to playing Dead Space...after a friend of mine bugged me about it for awhile. About an hour in and I like it so far.

  • I returned to this game because the Unofficial Giantbomb classic came back up. Bought it after playing the free demo for hours on end. This game is a lot of fun.

  • Picked this up after watching the quick look. Really enjoy it, and think the "click and link" form of match 3 is pretty fun. Got to the last boss and got wrecked, so in that sense it is just like FTL.

  • Started to play this on my laptop to get my alien fighting fix when I'm too lazy to get out of bed. Not quite as polished as XCOM, but is a bit more complicated with base management and such. Like that the UFO interception is hardier; having to worry about multiple UFOs is a neat addition.

  • Have played this game numerous times before. Have owned one copy of it or another since the PSX days. Played the PC port, which is alright. I don't know if it is just me, but playing on a 360 controller wasn't great...maybe I just need to switch buttons around. All in all, still fun (32 continues to win on normal. I am a scrub).

  • Finally got around to play this since the Protoss expansion is being released later this year. It's Starcraft II, and it's really good. Story is a bit hokey, but the gameplay makes up for it.

  • Picked this up after the QL. Fun little game. Wish I had a bit more control over the jump-arc, and that I could run during the turn-based stuff rather than having to jump everywhere.

  • There is nothing quite like getting back into Hearthstone after a year and having my mostly basic deck get eaten alive by legendary heavy decks. Not complaining, mind you, that's how things shake out. Still having fun.

  • Did not like this one.

  • I see people complaining about how this is just more Fallout, to this I say: this is a bad thing? This seems to be a fairly unpopular opinion, but I saw if it ain't broke, don't fix it (well, outside of the bugs, of course). Playing on Xbox One, and haven't ran into too many instances of slowdown/stuttering. Liking it so far.

  • Got this for free as part of the "Games With Gold" program on Xbox One. I stuck with this one longer than I usually do with a game of this type, but gave up on it before too long.

  • Got this free with "Games with Gold." I will admit I probably didn't give this one a fair shake, but the narrator annoyed me pretty much instantly.

  • Got this free with Games With Gold. Not anything remarkable, and gave up when I hit a jump that seemed to be impossible. Didn't seem like I was missing something, so maybe it bugged? Don't know, don't care, probably won't go back to it.

  • Yeah, I know this game is out of my age range, but the QL made it look interesting. Played it for a few hours on a lazy Sunday, and plan on playing some more. Will I get all the way to the end? I dunno, but so far I am enjoying it.

  • Was watching a Let's Play of some of these games and got to urge to play them again. Poked around with this one a little bit and had some fun.

  • I haven't played a "new" CoD game since...the first Black Ops? However, I got this one as part of my Xbox One bundle. All told

I enjoyed my time with Blops 3. The cyber abilities where fun to use and the campaign was alright. I dorked around in Nightmare mode for a bit, and it seems like a good idea, but it's not executed well. It removes all the customization options (I was hoping you'd be able to carry over stuff from the main campaign since you have to beat the game before you get Nightmare Mode), and a lot of the incidental VO is missing, making the world seem a lot less alive...no pun intended. Don't know if I am going to pursue it further, as I have a lot of other games to play.

  • Poked around in this one for a little bit. Had fun, will continue to play in the future.

  • Bought this one on a whim when it was $20 on the Xbox store. Played for a few hours and had fun with it. By no means perfect, but enjoyable to screw around in. Will continue to play.

  • I don't know why, but Just Cause 2 is that game that I keep buying but never play. I first started playing in on PS3 years ago, but sold the disc. Then I picked it up on Xbox360 when it was cheap, but never played it. Then I must of bought it on Steam, or got it as part of a bundle, because lo and behold it was installed on my PC. Sometime I will get the game one more good try to get into it, but not tonight, I think.
