Tobybobo's / Tobers Games Of The Year 2013

A list of games that i liked in 2013.

List items

  • I didn't want to hope for too much. This was due to fear that the initial E3 gameplay trailer simply wasn't a true representation of the actual gameplay and environments to be found in the final product.

    It was not!

On the bright side, it was even more incredible than what was initially shown.

What makes The Last of Us incredible to a zombie/post-apocalypse enthusiast like myself is the developers care for the overall zombie/infection outbreak story, and how to make the game original in it's excecution of this type of fiction.

What makes The Last of us incredible to everybody else (and me included), is the constant surprises throughout, be they big, small, visually or narratively, subtle or in your face. The Last of Us is a "tour de force" of all things that gaming is and can be when done right.

  • This is not just "more Bioshock". Unlike other sequels (you know which one I'm hinting at!), Infinite takes the framework of an already enjoyable, and surprisingly story-focused game and takes us to the next level.

    Litteraly.

  • Technically not released yet.

However, I have been in posession of the beta almost since the beginning, and I can say without a doubt that Hearthstone has been one of the most well spend time-consumers all year.

When the iPad version hits I'm officially doomed.

  • What a crazy goddamn game. What the hell? What the wha? What's with that last boss? What the actual fuck? .....

After finishing this game i sat still for a bit.

*inhaled slowly* *exhaled slowly* "Huh...?" (what the fuck did I just play? and why did it feel so goddamn good?)

  • Atmosphere atmosphere atmosphere.

    Them graphics and that gameplay.

This is exactly what I wanted out of a sequel to the excellent Metro 2033 and more. This game is an absolute joy to play, and if you're even remotely interested in post-apocalyptic stories, you're gonna have to get this.

  • What a quality piece of work DmC is. It is a far superior game compared to the old series, at least story and character wise. The boss battles are incredible, and the gameplay, which old school Devil May Cry fans will recognize quickly, has gotten some great additions as well.

Overall this new version of Devil May Cry has me "crying"... for more.... god dammit.

  • Just play it. It's so... well..

  • This is not a joke okey? It's really great.

  • This game is freaking insanely enjoyable.

Combining excellent gameplay, accessibility, and an artstyle that's universally cool across all disney properties.

That makes for a thing that I totally spend way too much time playing.

  • More BIT.TRIP RUNNER!!?? Yes please! Cool new GRAFIXXX? YES PLEASE!

  • Just more Arkham? Doesn't matter to me. I enjoyed it immensely.

Let's not talk about about the multiplayer...

  • NetherRealm continues to amaze me with yet another solid, and entertaining fighter.

Now with DC characters?! That's totally rad!

  • Well this sure came out of nowhere! What a great game, and for that price, everyone should get it!

  • It's been out for a long time I know.

However, there is no doubt in my mind that Minecraft has made me a better person throughout the past year.

The game helps me relax, and more importantly, hang out with my younger cousins in a way where we feel connected more than than ever. If we're ever in doubt as to what to do, or talk about, Minecraft is always there, and there is no need for me to pretend to have any interest in what they have to tell me. Because we, across all ages have the same profound fascination for this incredibly complex and ever changing world.
