Sometimes, lately, I have the best intentions to play a game, I tell my self "this is the game I am playing right now." Then... I don't touch it, or any other game for days, or weeks. My will can't live up to my intentions. Resident Evil 2 is a recent example. I love the exploration in those types of games, but the gameplay is too stressful. The enemies are virtually unkillable, there's no relief from the tension.

I relate with the feeling that games are too long, and demanding of your time. I have a bit of an open world fatigue in recent years. I like playing a short indy game every once in a while.

As a kid (I was born in 85) I games were very social. I played NES at daycare, and friends' houses a lot. It seemed like the NES was a staple at any house I visited, but I didn't have a console till the SNES. That social trend continued, I didn't play games to beat them, more just that experience of passing the controller and for fun. Although, I was an only child. I didn't have a lot of games, a few Mario games and some bad licences games. Still I played fighting and sports games with friends.

When I got a N64 things changed a bit. My friends didn't have consoles, but we still played a lot of multiplayer games like Mario Kart and Goldeneye. I was more aware of what games were worth playing and read gaming magazines. Mario 64 was probably the first game I ever beat. I began to become more of a completionist and fell in love with single player games, like Zelda.

After the N64, my friends weren't as interested in games and I became more of a single player guy. Although we did still play Perfect Dark fairly regularly for about 10 years. The primary exception being WoW, in the early days I was very guild focused. Even that I play as an essentially single player game now when I return for each new expansion for a little while.

In the past decade I've followed Giant Bomb and other game podcasts/sites. Early in the Steam days I'd buy more than I play to try and keep up with these game focused communities. Lately I've been playing fewer new games, as I wait for sales and being pretty picky about what I play. It's pretty intimidating how much stuff is out there these days. Occasionally I'll return to old games I love or always meant to play. I'm following fewer game focused content for the sake of more diverse podcasts and streaming videos.

I also write about all the games I play here, I should probably share it more:

@humanity: It's just the Killzone 2 trailer vs. the actual game situation. Of course 1313 isn't "real" but it represented what might be possible with then, next-gen consoles. It's possible to compare the "cutscene" portions with the cutscenes in Fallen Order and judge the face renderings, animation quality, object and environmental details of 1313 to the quality of the "real" stuff now in FO. It's possible to judge the "gameplay" parts of 1313 to the actual gameplay bits of Fallen Order and see where we still fall short even today. When you start a response with "I dunno because 1313 never came out" how do you not see it might come across as kind of shitty. Why do you even respond if you don't know? Don't tell me you're not talking down to ppl when every response is a little dig.

This is a puzzling reaction. All they did was give context and reason for their opinions. I saw nothing condescending or "shitty" about them.

That aside, it was cool watching this trailer again. It was like a sense of closure after desperately wanting a new single player Star Wars game and being super excited about the upcoming console generation at the time. I think Fallen Order's characters and environments look much better. After playing it, and revisiting this trailer, I find it much easier to let go. Although, it would have been cool to see a massive city like Coruscant.

I go to the cineplex because I live in Canada and there is only one theatre chain left.

We don't even get second run places.

Related, I don't go to movies much.

@sbarre

Yeah, the Cineplex monopoly is a bummer. Here, in the Vancouver area, there's at least one Landmark theatre with nice, big reclining seats. Still I don't get out there very often, but I do go to movies regularly. Location, what's playing, and when is the most important thing for me in deciding what theatre to go to.

Price is super a important thing for me too. I tried VIP once, but wasn't worth it to me. I go on cheap Tuesdays and optimize my points. Regular showings are ideal, 3D is paying more for a worse experience, the quality difference of AVX is negligible to me, but iMAX might be worth splurging on for the right movie. I never go opening weekends and see afternoon shows more often then not to avoid the crowds.

Vancouver, is pricey, but it's weather is milder than anywhere else in Canada. Cool summers and warm winters. Provided you don't mind a bit of rain. We get just enough snow that it feels special, not a nuisance. If you want snow, the mountains aren't far away. Or if you want something more affordable in BC, Victoria or Kelowna are options.

We certainly have our share of homeless and drug issues in Vancouver. I'm no expert, but I understand we are quite progressive. I'm not sure how common safe injections sites for addicts are globally, but that's something we do here.

Involved isn't necessarily better, depending on your tastes. I liked how satisfying stealth kills were with the bow in Skyrim, it felt good to get insane damage. It may have been super trivialized at a point, but it freed me up to do the exploring and questing I wanted to do. Witcher 3 just felt tedious and annoying. I probably could have used more potions, or whatever, but I didn't have to because I just cheesed every fight by rolling around a bunch. Including the final boss. It got to the point where I wasn't having fun at all and I just rushed through the main story till the end.

Psychonauts 2. It was also my most anticipated game of 2019.

Outer Wilds stands as my game of the year. No combat exploration, with an ever present sense of danger. Unique world designs that are mechanically compelling and full of surprises.

Control and Untitled Goose Game are pretty good too. Baba is You is very cool, but way to hard for me.

Looking forward to playing Outer Worlds and a few games coming next month. I'd like to get around to RE2 at some point too.

Who would want to break it big? Doing what you love is the real dream. You don't have to be as successful as Steven Spielberg to have a satisfying creative career.

Looks like Conan actually provided his own voice. Will there be other guests with their real voice?

Conan's my hero, the best late night host and a legend. This remote was okay, not Conan's best, but it was neat seeing Kojima's office and toy collection.
