To be fair, this week and the coming or prior eps or most of part 1 of this season aren't the most entertaining of the two parts. Were like in act 2 or so of the overall story and if you're not in love with spinning wheels like me, then I can see why the crew slowed down a bit. That said. Like the last half shows the author could always write super compelling fights, he's just sometimes done for time, given his detailed art and weekly release and competition at the time. I think the crew still keeps up good spirits, unlike the net where everything is trash, mid, or overrated/peak/overhyped in some weird hate circle of not being impressed by anything.

I don't mind the spoilers, people exaggerate how much 1, people will remember oh you said there is a blank stand, 2, that it even matters cause yes just about anything generally works. 3. there is a come stand at least one that works by making babies. 4. They forget tons I doubt they will remember some minuscule clue that a stand exist nearly a year later for it to matter. Also they have gone to locations where boxes exist with characters on it, games had trailers with all the stands and they saw them, they will likely run into people or places that showcase the series. Netflix shows pics of characters randomly. Knowing and seeing are two different things. The others arent spoiling dio for goodness sake. I do think just explaining hey this weird thing will be explained later would work but i also see many first time viewers get annoyed cause modern stories are quicker to explain weird things ie why it seems convenient that all the people chasing them have stands when only a few should have them etc. It could take someone out of the show so its best to just tell them like they did in the podcast. As long as they enjoy it, i think anything said in the podcast is fine, as long as it doesnt take away from their enjoyment.

@vamperial: Even worst for monster hunter clones. With dark souls likes souls people are still or were still thirsty for a challenging game again so they tried out whatever came out. Much like stealth game fans who like splinter cell and MGS. Though stealth games tend to fall into we cant please non stealth fans just make it a shooter when your caught, so there arent many solid hard stealth games.

Souls main games you can beat in 10-50 hours, elden ring not included. So were still thirsty and try the lords of fallen 6/10 type games a trudge through a game that "didnt get it..." for the ones that mostly do Nioh 2, etc. Then we have Monster hunter clones, which usually simplify to gain audience, so the MH audience already isn't that high on it, comes off like babies first play date, then the new audience plays and says...ok ill go to monster hunter where its more advanced. It becomes the guy you date before you marry the next one. lol. Souls you can try for simple advanced ect. souls people just want more souls challenge, the cycle of explore, boss, challenge, so on. That's something you can mine for a long time.

Im more surprised people havent copied more of something like splatoon, jet set radio future, crazy taxi, etc.

@simplybagel: Yeah agreed. @wittynickname I think the discussion worked even better in that she moved it to the idea of games like this and how they are received due to differences in interpretation of what the creator wanted to do and what you wanted out of it. Personally never been a fan of the oh its campy on purpose, makes me feel like im wasting my time mostly, im ok with a director trying something even if it comes off pretentious. Like i didnt like matrix 4, but liked matrix 1 and even some of 2 regardless of it as people say, trying too hard. But jess sounded right, campy would have worked for a slow slog of a game to liven it up, though maybe it's not a slog (her story was for me). There's more to it but it reminded me of the backlash mgs2 got on release and now post-release in 2020-2022 were a lot of the things in the game are taking effect in pseudo ways. Back then people claimed it was a disappointment you didn't get to play as snake, then the conversation nearer now turned to this guy does the same crap and his stories aren't good you just think they're good cause their complex but they are not they just convoluted and nothing makes sense, to oh crap a lot of what he said kinda works, still he thinks he's smart or i feels like he does, and his games are dumb lol so, etc. Like jess said, it helps that there is silly nature mixed in and he is trying to discuss what he enjoys reading about. (I also think people don't notice that a lot of anime and Japanese topics in games mostly military sci-fi deal with this stuff so its more fresh for them).

Opinion:

The game is fresh for people just hopping in, like westanderson movies. I just saw 1 anderson movie and was impressed. Got to talk about it with others who are jaded by the fact he uses a similar style in other movies, and called him pretentious. People who like anderson will call him genious. The group that likes FMV games usually really likes FMV and will call out as jess mentioned games for passing a low bar since most fmv are known and people are ok with them being janky.

That said, I think the discusssion made me go from not wanting to play to listening and wanting to lol. As jess mentioned sometimes that differing of opinions can help notice things instead it perplexed her IMO why most opinions were so 10/10 high. Overall I think the game hits if you don't know the stick, which is how most games work. Souls, your first is usually your favorite cause the newest wares off.

Also I see her point, from her story blowing up, i bounced off it, but get why if you were into that it would blow your mind, but the games he makes do seem like they're made to win awards, not a bad thing just noticable. It's a big difference from oh i made this thing and wow people like it and no you better like it, it has all the points to make it good. Again very hard to point fingers since regardless your still making a good game and i dont think the dude can make a normal 3d game so im happy he shows you can still make games without coding etc.

Pretty impressed she figured out how to beat him so quick. Most get frustrated and blame the game, but yes if your calm you notice his auto action is to grab you for going straight forward, but he's distracted when he picks things up. She seems to be a more aware gamer vs the just go and have a good time, lol, in that she plays puzzle like games in say silent hill, just assumptions and observations. Watched two best friends play that boss and it takes about 3 minutes vs dan's 8 or so to figure it all out...the boss is the dark souls first boss gate keeper of...are you willing to put up with jank this strong...with bad tells like rings around an opponent and you with no rings thus causing you to run forward and insta die...are you ready to play...

I know people hate this series now a days due to that backlash on you know who and whatever that anti agenda crowd pushes with misinformation and clicks but I still think the series is solid. Yeah people didnt think the story should have been so dark...but I go into a R rated material knowing that I'll be challenged by what I see, plus you can just skip the cutscenes.

Anyway, this seems solid. IGN did a indepth review that shows what a easy glance misses. It's good for people who never played it to get the best fedelity. I don't see the issue, just buy the old version if you dont like this.

@bludgeoner86: Yeah seems like a lot of games are updated with the times, and many faults people had are fixed or changed. Fortnite on release had iffy controls, not bad just not good enough for what people wanted. Now they're really solid. The world is much more realized. But like all things people tire of it no matter how good it gets. Me included. That said I go back from time to time, but there were times when it got super fun to just go...ok ill give it another match...Plus there are tons of non-competitive games to play and chill with. I think PUBG had this deep competition with Fortnite for stealing its lunch in the past but they really were different things...much like souls likes are different. PUBG tried to backpedal into wacky but it personally doesn't fit the aesthetic. It was hit you with a frying pan wacky not Forza motorsport, colors all around, do TikTok dances while teleporting cause a multiverse opened and Goku's here wacky. I think they shouldn't push away their audience.

@theonewhoplays: Never understood the take that fortnite makes nothing themselves. I won't go against anyone hating the popular thing that's always in your face. Those tend to just erk people when they can't jump on the train and "get" the appeal. Plenty hate Elden ring with a passion, I and many who couldn't click with the combat in sekiro bounced off, (gonna return one day).

But fortnite has a ton of original characters, a story, etc. Most of it stems from the idea that the multiverse cracks bring all these characters into their land. This was before multiverse got played out...like it kinda is now. Not a great excuse but I always get shocked that people kick epic for Fortnite adding value that you don't have to buy, constantly adding more, and allowing you to basically buy it for free if you just play the game. Further, they use some profits from the game to fund throwaway things like giving out free games each week, or supporting indie devs. Not saying their good or perfect, I just think they are a bit better than say EA or Konami at the moment. Also fair for once to see them not hating on the popular series for the time, that they didnt get into at release. They usually gush about games they found out and got popular later for comparison. Not hating on that, again something as usual as time, as usual as any popular series, game, movie, or song getting called overrated from someone who finds out later after all the hype.

@cyberspacecat: With a quick glance on ratings graph it seems that was one of the lowest-rated batches of episodes. It also seems like all jo jo has a scattered sense of episodes that are good and bad, seemingly due to the almost anthology-like interaction in each fight. With the final acts or acts that progress the story most being the bread and butter. I wonder why ariki doesn't just focus on the big beats and adds silly or whatever downtime monster of the weeks. I assume he just enjoys some creative time and why he's been writing for so long. Akin to one piece where he can just add any idea and it works for the story then he can explore it by saying there is an island where it's like hansle and greddle with candy houses, and toys that talk and waterfalls everywhere along with giants and old day japan etc. lol.

Another strange thing is in the past people claimed part 4 was the best intro for new watchers and the best part narratively, and were disappointed in part 5 and thought it was confusing and lackluster, now that part 5 caught up to people, it's their most favorite since the pacing and structure, always moving to their goal, is more likable for today's give it to me now i don't have all day watchers lol. Part 3 was a fun tune-in and chill with the boys low stakes or at least monster of the week people didn't mind week to week but binging seems to make things like that awful. (though i assumed reactors who binge would be more ok with slow plots cause their's always more but I think the FOMO kicks in and they just wanna be at where everyone else is, where they are as impressed with the story, since most often their not a few episodes in.) Part 6 doesn't seem to be doing so well, but that could be cause what i mentioned and the chopped-up release. Part 6 also shines in the 3rd act material, not really good for the generation that drops stuff if it's not immediately mind-blowing.
