What I've Caught: Ladyfish Edition

I don't expect anybody to read this but whatever, I just feel like writing and I could use some practice. Since I can't go bowling for a while after what happened to my thumb(maybe I'll write about that later) I went fishing on Monday at a spot near Little Talbot island. It's a great spot and really beautiful but it's kind of a long walk to get there. The first place I normally fish there is on the rocks where I've seen some pretty big Tarpon surface. I set out a couple rods on the bottom with shrimp and squid and then I started throwing out a lure. The first spot was a complete bust, no bites and my lure got hung up on something so I had to break the line. I then decided to go a little further down and fish on the beach.

There was a decent amount of mullet running so I threw out a cast net and got a good bit for bait. So I set out the rods again and this time pretty soon I got a really great hit that I thought was a much bigger fish but it was a Ladyfish at around five pounds which is about as big as most will get. Ladyfish put up a pretty good fight and will often jump just like their cousin the Tarpon. The next couple of hours I caught five more Ladyfish and lost two more when they jumped. I called it a day after that, total count was six Ladyfish ranging from two to six pounds. Ladyfish are pretty terrible to eat but I'm still pretty happy to have caught them cause they're great bait for sharks. Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to take my canoe or kayak out and try to catch some sharks with these Ladyfish.
