Can you not summon for the Royal Rat Authority boss? It's the first boss so far that's really frustrating me so I turned human but I didn't see any summon signs and I can't place my own either.

EDIT: I beat it, not sure why he was giving me so much trouble . I still think it's weird I couldn't summon anybody for that fight.

@fredchuckdave: I'd really like to hear your explanation on why you think the Smelter Demon is the hardest boss in the series. Sure he's powerful but there's plenty of time to drink estus flasks and my adaptability is probably lower than most people at this point. EDIT: So I've just fought him a couple more times in co-op and the only hard attack to dodge is his shockwave aoe which he didn't do against me when I fought him.

I just beat the Smelter Demon on my first try, really thought he would be a lot harder from what I've heard. I don't think I'm using an overpowered build or anything either, I'm soul level 110 and used a great club+8 and a tower shield+5 wearing drangleic armor unupgraded. I even had my jester hat on as I didn't realize he was through that door so I didn't have time to change to a proper helm. All of his attacks were easily blocked, maybe the people who had trouble were either trying to roll or used smaller shields. With the way stability works in this game I doubt I'll ever not use a greatshield in any of my builds.

I think I finally settled on my two weapons for the rest of the game. I'm using a great club+8 and a mastodon halberd+4, I'm just waiting to get more shards and chunks. I've come around on the big, heavy weapons after using a regular club for most of the game. My only gripe with the great club is that it doesn't seem to do as much poise damage as some other great hammers.

So far it's been the forced invasions/summoning. I abhor the PvP in the Souls games so I'm trying my best to avoid it but I keep getting summoned as a grey phantom. I'm going to try to at least finish my first playthrough online but all subsequent runs will definitely be offline only.

EDIT: Also the despawning enemies really sucks when some of them have such a low drop rate. I'm trying to get the mastodon halberd and I'm having no luck so far. Honestly this is one of the worst design decisions I've ever seen in a game.

I remember the driving being a lot more fun than I expected out of a top down game. Other than that it's the usual crazy characters and story of a GTA.

EDIT: For the record I played it on a DS so I don't know anything about the PSP version. The touchscreen minigames on DS were actually pretty cool but I don't know how they translate to PSP controls.

I just traded for the Chariot Lance(which was my favorite boss fight so far) and I'm quite disappointed in the damage and moveset. I might keep it around since it is a pretty safe weapon behind a shield. The Dragonrider Bow so far though is excellent. I'll probably just start upgrading the Club since I don't know if I'll find a better one handed strength weapon.

It's annoying that primal bonfires are one way warp only. I helped a couple of people out today with the Lost Sinner and it would've been nice if I could have warped to the primal bonfire just steps away from the boss room. Also if I fail to connect to a co-op session I have to quit and reload to put my white soapstone down again.

I'm not sure who he's listening to, but everything I've read about Adaptability is praise worthy stuff. Animation speed is no joke. It's THE THING in PVP. I've killed lots of people more powerful than myself because I can attack and dodge before their attack connects with me. I kill them in like 12 hits. They kill me in 3. Once I get my hands on a Katana and level myself up its all over for them. My PVP experience in Dark Souls is paying off in a big way.

It seems you're coming from the perspective of PvP when Brad and many others don't care about PvP. I can't say that ADP is a bad stat but I've found it unnecessary so far for PvE. I still have single digit ADP and haven't had much trouble so far. The last boss I beat was the Lost Sinner in the dark which was pretty easy and I beat the Ruin Sentinels on my first try. I don't know who the hardest bosses are yet but I figure the Sentinels have to be towards the top since you fight three of them. I could be completely wrong and put points into it later but right now for me it's unnecessary.

I'm using a mace, bastard sword and a caestus behind a tower shield. I just got through the Lost Bastille and I'm too paranoid to upgrade any of them yet as I don't want to waste any materials since they seem to be pretty limited this time around. With the way durability is in this game I'm not a fan of the larger weapons that hit the walls and floor.

My knee jerk reaction was to be really bummed out, but this is a good thing. With how ambitious they are planning to make the final game I feel like CD Project should take as much time as possible.

Same here and it gives me more time to upgrade my PC.
