[PC - Game Pass] Started campaign, mostly played multiplayer!
[PC]
[PC] This was an amazing game to dig into after playing Acid Nerve's followup title, Death's Door (aka best game 2021). It was very fun to see some of the roots of Death's Door in Titan Souls and I appreciated the gameplay of Titan Souls on its own. The gameplay is almost entirely what I would call a "boss puzzler(?)" where you have to sort out the puzzley way to defeat each boss without getting hit. Some of the bosses were pure BS, but most were exciting and fun and just took a few attempts before figuring out their weakness.
[PC - Game Pass] Everything everyone said about this game is accurate. I really enjoyed piecing together some story bits through environmental storytelling, the music and art is lovely, and it's short and sweet. No bad notes!
[PC] Just an incredible experience that both bewildered and enraptured me. All you need to know about this game is 1. that it's super short and 2. you use your eyeballs to control it. Oh, and that it has the potential to make you well up with emotion. Very cool, unique experience.
[PC] Started, haven't finished. Probably will go back someday when I want a chill, sorta on-rails experience.
[PC - Game Pass] Started, found it kinda interesting, but the art style and feel of some of the gameplay kinda rubbed me the wrong way. And I stopped paying for Game Pass for a big chunk of 2022, so I didn't go back.
[PC - Game Pass] I see now why old school FPS campaign fans (notably Jeff Gerstmann and Danny O'Dwyer in my mind) praise this game so much. I haven't played many FPS campaigns to completion, but this one reminded me a lot of my faves like Halo, Half Life 2, and Portal. This was like a really incredible sci-fi action movie that you could interact with, and I loved that. Plus, the way it kind of drip feeds different mech weapons layouts made the gameplay feel fresh from start to finish. Oh, and I've loved the time I spent with Apex Legends, and this precedes that and therefore the shooting/sliding/wall running is second to none in all of FPS games I've ever played. Just a really solid experience and I really hope they make a 3rd one.
[3DS] 3DS store closure panic buy! SUPER FUN. ^This is what I wrote when I added this game to the list initially early in the year. And it still applies! I mean, who couldn't love a horse racing solitaire sim with random elements and dice rolls all over the place??? Shouts to Drew Scanlon and Dan Ryckert for their Quick Look in 2016, which I referred back to before hopping on the bandwagon effect of scrambling to buy 3DS games that stemmed from the 3DS eshop closure. This is a digital-only game as well, so I hope some good emulation exists out there for it. I think this is a ridiculous, but highly polished and addictive game that I will come back to for years and years! Very glad I remembered it existed.
[Switch] I... am sorry to say... but this is definitely my most disappointing $60 game purchase I've ever made. I plan to play more of it, but almost purely out of obligation. Ended up putting a handful of hours into it, and I found some elements very interesting for a Pokemon game. Chiefly just being able to walk around with all the pokemon of the world and interact with them in real time. That's super novel!! But ultimately the look of the game and the slow pacing in the beginning really blew my chances to enjoy the game long-term (for now). I'm disappointed that I wasn't able to identify that I might not enjoy this enough for $60, but some lessons you gotta learn the hard way. That said, very excited for Scarlet and Violet this year - hope it's good!
