Halo 3 ODST Campaign = Excellent

I definitely went into this game with low expectations.  The consensus seems to be that Halo3 + Reach = good, and ODST was meh.  Honestly, I enjoyed the story and characters a lot more in ODST than Halo3.  Gameplay is essentially the same.  It had its annoyances: Backtracking to get ammo/guns, having to kill tanks without the right kind of weapons.

Loved the fact that I didn't have to fight any flood.   I find it much more entertaining fighting the convenant.  I kinda have a dislike for the game mechanic of  increaseing the difficulty toward the end of the game by replacing all the enemies with 'upgraded' or 'tougher' enemies.  Aka, the flood in Halo1, the elite guys in gears of war, etc.

All in all a good game and worth picking up on the cheap just for the single player experience.

Yes, every Halo game without the fucking Flood is automatically better than the ones with it.

I don't give a shit about the story, the Flood is just fucking annoying.

I think excellent may be a stretch but it is a good game. Also, the firefight mode is great.

It was pretty good, except of course for the parts that didn't make any sense.

It did sorta jump the shark at the end with the 'asset'.

That and Dare gets out of her pod without opening the door and gets passed all the covenant outside. She then decides to go the data center without contacting the ODST team she requested to go on the mission with her and was talking to 2 minutes before she got out of her pod. Then Buck suddenly knows were to go at the end without mentioning it before to the team and then goes by himself. The asset made sense, talking to Sgt Johnston at the end did not.

Yup, I thought this was maybe the best campaign of any Halo game, Reach was excellent, but ODST had its own unique style.

It's a good game. I had struggle's enjoying it on the few times I got lost.
Halo 3 still had a better campaign than ODST.

It had a damn good soundtrack also. Much less grandiose than the Master Chief Halo games, the more subdued nature went well with the nighttime setting of the game. Playing as Buck or Romeo in a flashback mission, then going back to being the rookie all alone at night in the streets was something I thoroughly enjoyed.

I love ODST, but the game is forever ruined for me now that I've realized that "ODST" sounds exactly like "Odious Tea".

I have a love for everything Bungie has done. ODST in felt like a reciprocation of that love. I can totally see why those outside the core fanbase would see it as a shameless cash in, but there are so many little things in it that call back to their roots and the obscure, convoluted Bungie mythology. Yet it's not obnoxious with it, it's subtle and well integrated enough to be enjoyed by those not familiar. Like everything they do, it's treated smartly. Fan service at it's best.

And fuck those kids on Xbox Live for giving us a bad name. They are not representative of the sect of fans ODST was built for.

I think Halo 3's campaign was the best between the three modern Halo games. I thought ODST's story was a bit on the boring side but running and shooting around the city made up for it. About Reach I don't want to talk because I thought the campaign was boring, repetitive and not up to par with the previous games.
