@canteu: That was in reference to formal writing, news and the like. There's a stark difference in the casualness, which I felt counted as a separate case, but I'll take your response to mean that it doesn't factor into your word choices. Personally, I'd only write/speak with that level of formality at serious engagements, but to each their own style I suppose.

@canteu: Yes, but they're used to distinguish maturity, and gender[edit:when I would use a word that just references gender were it a male]. Would you have referred to a male, as a man in that same "first x I've seen to ask" sentence were that the case? I know that I wouldn't have.

@bennyboy: Also the fact there are alternative nouns which can be used more accurately in more situations, it's generally a poor choice for a noun.

I only ever say Man, or Woman in these cases when I'm distinguishing someone as an adult. So, why is it less accurate when you'd be using a casual more neutral word, were it a guy being talked about.

@bennyboy: You might want to work on your reading comprehension.

@canteu: You're certainly right. What I was getting with that was more along the lines of saying "woman congressman," or "woman doctor." I think the usage of female, as in the "first female i've seen" is fine because the alternatives are poor. This is because I'd take improper grammarDiction over perceived misogyny. The problem rests in tying the usage of woman together with the usage of man. This results in the use of "woman" sounding worse to the ear in these cases, because I would say first "guy", or "dude", but not "man". You'd use man or woman to distinguish a level of maturity, and using it all the time is just weird in my opinion. Guy doesn't have a female analogue, so that's off the table. Dudette isn't a word, and isn't something you'd ever hear really. Chick, ma'am, and the others like them wouldn't work for obvious reasons. I'd rather use an analogue, that wouldn't make me look like an ass if I knew of one.

I've always wondered why people insist on using woman rather than female when talking of firsts, and other such stuff in the news. It's always been jarring to me since were it a male, I'd say the first male x, or the male x in the same case. Regardless of what people think, I've always handled this by asking if I'd say male in the same case, and that use of female was alright in my book. That is until such a time that there is a female-gendered impersonal pronoun that isn't seen as inherently inappropriate.

@UhOhCheerio:

I'd suggest waiting for Black Friday/Cyber Monday, if you can afford to wait. I don't know what your situation is, but it's a little over a month out, and you're certain to save a few hundred bucks, and probably walk away with a better rig.

Honestly, If anyone gives you shit for "China Don't Care" just mention it's history of human rights abuse, it's absence of freedom of speech, or how about just mention Tibet and call it a day. This is not racist, and compared to the reality of China, it's incredibly tame. I find it incredibly hard to believe that anyone outside of the Chinese Government would take offense.

You being great at WoW raiding means you are a awesome and successful person? No, usually hardcore raiders are basement dwelling nerds, the stereotype is there for a reason.

Dont let online idiots fool you into thinking that it somehow correlates with you as a person, afterall wouldnt you rather be successful in life and shit at games than the opposite?

Contradicts this.
