For the month so far people are bitching and moaning about games getting pushed back till after Christmas. 
everyone is saying we don't have anything to get this year anymore. That's bullshit there is still more games coming out in OCT and NOV then came out all year.

I was under the impression that the point was most the biggest titles planned for the november/december launch period have been pushed to 2010, not that nothing is coming out. I'm pretty sure the whole 'nothing in 2009' thing is a joke, using exaggeration. In any case, there's no way in hell I can buy everything good coming out either way. Maybe I don't hang around the sort of people that you do. I thought everyone said it for a laugh.

Don't forget Borderlands, thats still set for release in October.

I agree. The three or so games that I am actually anticipating for this holiday (Dragon Age, Modern Warfare 2, and Assassin's Creed 2) are still coming out.

No one said there was no holiday releases. 
 
Plus, I didn't realize there were people that exist that still buy Guitar Hero games.

Assassin's Creed sold really well. And publishers aren't pushing back because they don't think their quality can compete with that of Assassin's Creed 2 (because that's impossible to quantify, pre-release), they're pushing their games back to avoid having to compete for a spot in the marketplace with the likes of the games ArbitraryWater brought up.

Just for the sake of completeness, here's the list of games I think you could call "Big Releases" that got delayed out of the fourth quarter, courtesy of 1Up:   Bayonetta and Dark Void (grouping them together because you did mention then them) BioShock 2 Dead 2 Rights Retribution Heavy Rain (my biggest heartbreaker) I Am Alive Infinite Space Mafia 2 Max Payne 3 Red Dead Retribution Red Steel 2 Singularity Splinter Cell: Conviction "

I think that and probably Max Payne 3 are the two that least surprise me, mainly because the most we've seen of either is concept art and a general sense of what it is. Still, I Am Alive was initially scheduled to be released this holiday season and had a press release bumping it back; I suspect it to come out next fall really, as 2010 Assassian's Creed replacement.

Indeed, AC sold 8 million copies, not bad when you consider it had no multiplayer at all.  Halo 3 sold about the same.  AC2 doesn't seem to get mentioned in the same breath as MW2 and ODST for some reason, I don't know why, I can see it destroying ODST in sales.
 
I don't think the publishers are trying to avoid any specific game, rather the sheer overcrowding of releases which means that their second-tier games are gonna get no media coverage, no decent shelf space in stores etc.  That and half of them probably just aren't ready yet.
 
All of the delayed games fall into one of two categories:  'Unsurprising' (Conviction, Mafia II, Starcraft 2, Bioshock 2) or 'Nobody cares that this got delayed' (Dark Void, Bioshock 2).
 
They are completely flailing around with Bioshock 2 trying to find a hook for that game.  They based the sequel on Bioshock's hype rather than it's sales and now they have no idea how to avoid a train wreck.  It's gonna flop whenever they release it, they should have just gone straight to Airshock or whatever. 
 
Mafia 2 is Gears of War with tommy guns.  Dark Void is Gears of War with a rocket pack.  Conviction is Vegas 2 with a scruffy Sam Fisher - when it's finally released, people will realise that it only looked great when compared to Ubisoft's last 4 attempts at it.  Don't get me wrong, they're all likely to be good games (except Bioshock 2), just not the "Oh no! We might as well cancel Christmas! >:(" good that some people are making them out to be.

You could've just stopped right there and the arguement would have been just as valid.  But yes, you still have a great point.  Lets just say we bought each of your favourite games this holiday, at 50 bones a pop, thats still over 400$ you're going to be putting down for.    Spoiled brat is very much true. Even with the delays of some high profile titles, this Fall still definitely packs a good punch of quality titles.  Hopefully I will have enough money for all of them that I want. 

The only game that I am really disappointing over is Splinter Cell: Conviction.
 
But there is so much still coming that in the end, doesn't really matter. I am buying Alpha Protocol, Brutal Legend, Dragon Age and Modern Warfare 2 for sure. (Not to mention my Fifa 10 :-P) 
 
Then other games like The Saboteur I am still keeping an eye on. I like the concept, though who knows if its any good.

I have my own list of games that excite me this holiday season.  However, I do think it's appropriate to wonder how smaller titles and newer IPs will fare in the crowded marketplace of Christmas part deux this spring.  Titles which tried to avoid competing with the likes of Modern Warfare 2 and Halo ODST will now have to work against Mass Effect 2, Starcraft 2 and other high profiles franchises for our post Christmas buck.

There are still several games that I want to play coming out this year (Alpha Protocol, Brutal Legend, L4D2 and Borderlands) but there are more that I'm interested in that are coming out in 2010 (ME2, Diablo 3, Alan Wake, Deus Ex 3, FFXIII, SC: Conviction, Dark Void, Max Payne 3, Mafia 2 and APB).
 
Still the games of 09 will be more then enough to keep me busy until then.

can't you people read that is the list of games I'm getting  I like the songs in GH5 so I'm getting it  I hate the Beatles and can make up my own opinion that amazingly can be different from the giantbomb staff  "

The rest of 09 is still looking good to me. As long as AC2 comes out I'm golden. 
Along with that, I still have Beatles RB, Batman AA, Borderlands, (used copy of) L4D2, and maybe Alpha Protocol. 
 
What bugs me is how weak-ass 09's been THUS FAR. I haven't bought a single game released this year (aside from DLG's). There weren't even real contenders for me regarding retail games. Now look at the sick list of '10 releases, and I'll be a happy camper come the new year. 
Hell, January 1st they release Darksiders (which I think I'll be the only one buying that). Good thing it's SP.

I really only care about Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption anyway. Red Steel 2 im kinda on the fence about but everything else is pretty much meh.
