The games aren't lost and the account is still there; the grudge is over the name and its meaning. If there was no getting past it and those pre-08 psn exclusive games really were that important to him, he could've just taken the money from selling off that mint in box ~unreleased game he was sent for review and never touched (see: the raid (japan)) and populated the new account with them no problem.
Holding an 11 year (and counting) grudge against a platform holder for the display name chosen for the press account of your former employer which you happened to walk out with? Classy.
