Frozen Synapse is probably the best thing I've played this year

I was enamored by Frozen Synapse from the moment I watched GB's Quick look, and it has honestly been such a good experience for me. I worried a bit at the game being in a beta-esque state at the time of the Quick-Look, but was quick to purchase it once I heard it hit full release. After convincing myself to work through the single player in preparation for the multiplayer, I was amazed at how much content was in the campaign (55 missions, I believe). While the story is a bit convoluted for my taste (people in the future hate each other - who knew?), I really enjoyed the mission structure and how the game evolved over the story. In fact, the last few missions of the single player campaign make you feel like a complete badass - working through loads of enemies with extremely small numbers. The last mission caused me a sleepless night, but I could not have been more elated to finish the game.

I'm really only now breaking into the multiplayer, and it is exactly (and I mean exactly) what I want out of a multiplayer game: the matchmaking is fantastic, the mission types are all there from the single player (though every game I've played so far has been Dark Extermination - seems the be the popular choice), and, best of all, I can use the game's turn-based structure to play one game over a week. I've gifted the game to three friends who live all over, and I will have no problem ever fitting a game in with their schedule. I'm a big board gamer, so the turn based structure scratches that itch too!

I implore anyone and everyone to play this game. Buy a copy and give the free copy to a friend or someone on GB. If you want to play me, bring it. My username is Truitt, and I'm ready to lose to real-life people.

Extended gaming sessions: How do people do this regularly?

I wish I could focus on playing a game for hours upon hours. But honestly, as much as I love games, I just can't sit down and play them for huge amounts of time without taking breaks. It makes me sad, because time continues to be limited in my life for things like games. With some holidays coming up, and no hopes for a girlfriend in sight, gaming time should be in big supply. But how am I supposed to get myself to finish all these games? It's frustrating how many games I love and how complete I want to be with games in a series, but I just can't sit down for more than an hour or two (at most) and play the same game. It's tough!

Am I getting old or something? I just don't see how people can devote consecutive hours to sitting down without getting worn out. My friends laugh at me because I talk games all the time, but I'm so behind in what I'm playing because I can't seem to finish anything quickly. This goes for board games too: I love any type of game...but I can't seem to focus for 4+ hour play sessions of Through the Ages or some other time-intensive game. It sucks!

Do you game in large quantities? Are you some crazy Diamond-Tier SC2 player who is laughing at his huge flat-screen monitor right now? Am I in the majority or the minority?

Monkey Island catchup

With the little free time I have these days, I've been playing through Monkey Island 3 and 4 in prep for 5. Curse certainly got a whole lot better throughout the game, but I'm not so sure Escape will be worthwhile at all. The controls seem pretty bad, which is funny considering how much I like Grim Fandango.

Need to write something more substantial soon.

All I want to do is play Uncharted, but...

This was well documented across the Internets a number of months ago, and I just want to set some things straight.

I still can't fucking play Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on my PS3. It doesn't work. It freezes, and won't even get in game anymore. I have followed every tutorial on-line to fix the issue, and called into tech support numerous times, and I still cannot fucking play my game.  FW 3.01 fixed nothing for me. FW 3.30 doesn't do jack...and I'm just plain fed up with it.

This is driving me crazy. I cannot stand the fact that Uncharted is a PS3 exclusive and I can't play it because of some apparent firmware issues. And what's worse is, if you look at the Naughty Dog forums, and you look at the Uncharted forums on Sony's website, this is a widespread issue for PS3 Slim users. And yet, I have gotten no worthy response from anyone about how I can play this game. Every couple weeks I try the same steps to no avail. And this has been going on for months.

When am I going to be able to play this game, and why the hell does no one seem to care to fix an issue for one of the best exclusive games for the PS3?

Console me, please. I need it...

Dead Rising and whats next

After a 3rd or 4th try, I finally figured out Dead RIsing. I had popped it in a number of times, and not garnered any enjoyment out of it, but this time was different. I knew there was a good game in there somewhere, I just didn't see at first.

I think my first thought was that taking pictures was actually an important part of the game (which isn't the case at all). After realizing how little I was enjoying taking pictures, I basically ignored the concept. Dead Rising really has a lot of fun options to allow you to do what you want, and I was having a whole lot more fun saving people and exploring than trying to get good PP with a camera shot.

I'm looking forward to DR2 now. I really do think Dead Rising is an amazing title (at least I think it was) for the 360, and is one of the best zombie games I've ever played. I'm not a huge zombie movie fan, but this game got the vibe I would want from a zombie movie. Just the right amount of story and mystery mixed together.

Persona 2 is what I'll be working on for a little while, though I'm sure I will add another game soon. I know my list has Fallout 3 as the next game to play, but I have a hankering to start Assassin's Creed. I think I played it originally for 20 minutes and never got back to playing it, so I really feel like I should give that a try soon. SSFIV will be played in little bits as well. I really want to be good at it, but I don't want to commit the time to do so.

Make sure to persuade me to add games to my to-play list.

I'm serious, I want some opinions badly. I don't get recommendations from people anymore...I really only give them out.

Gaming and time

I really don't have time to play like I want to anymore. I seem to always want to play, but when I get to my free time, I can't seem to get myself to focus tons of time on playing. I've never been a marathon gamer. It would take a really fucking awesome game for me to play more than two hours in one sitting. I always have that voice in my head telling me I should be doing something else more "productive".

Question is, how do I deal with this? I'm happy that I have limits, but I'm also sad that I don't get through games fast enough. I also enjoy having a social life (as small as it may be)

But I digress. Gaming will (probably) never be my job, and it probably wouldn't be fun anymore if it was my job.

Currently playing - Dead Rising, Persona 2 - Innocent Sin, SSFIV: Great mixture of games for me right now. I pulled out Persona 2 a little fast after playing a number of RPGs, but its good enough to keep me working on it slowly but surely. I imagine I will play through Dead Rising twice, only because the game seems to demand it from you. I don't really replay games often, so it'll an interesting experience to do it back-to-back. And SSFIV is awesome. Hoping I have a friend or two interested in throwing down on a regular basis. Online has never been my favorite place to play games, but I certainly played plenty of SFIV that way.

The Greatest Game I've Never Played

I really love gaming, like anyone on Giant Bomb. But I will play just about anything. There are certainly some genres I avoid (driving games mostly), but I will always try something if its recommended to me.

But if there is one thing I cannot get over, after gaming for the better part of my life, is that I will end up dying having never played quite possibly the greatest games ever made. I simply attempt to play too many games, and I am already well behind in my quest to play everything ever. It saddens me, even though it gives me an endless goal to strive for. I have created a "games to play" list, but it was made mostly to make me laugh. How can I possibly rank which games to play first? I obviously have no idea, because games that should not be priorities are becoming priorities, and are leaving amazing games unplayed.

I want to elaborate, but I would imagine I could write an entire blog on this. I have considered keeping tabs on my travels at many points over the past few years, but am too lazy to make a website that is up to the standard I would like it to be. That is to say...I don't really have time anymore. So maybe I will attempt every once in a while to chronicle my escapades on Giant Bomb.

I'm certainly no writer (not a cohesive one anyway), so I don't expect this to be more than a self-reflection for me to look back on. In an awesome world, I would love to get recommendations flowing in, and possibly visit some games I never would have otherwise. But I want to be the guy that can talk about just about any game. I'm looking for the greatest game I've never played.
