1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Although buggy to start with, have had no problems after patch 1.4. So addictive, so much enjoyment, can see myself playing this for years to come.
2. Binary Domain
I call this one a hidden gem. Not much fanfare, not much advertising and marketing behind it, but Sega once again shows it can make great games.
3. Max Payne 3
I waited a long time to see Max again, and when I did I was definitely not disappointed. One of the best games of the year, possibly in line for many, many awards. Bullet-time is back, and is back with a brutal vengeance.
4. StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty
Yeah I know it was released in 2010, but am still playing it and still learning its intricacies. Also looking forward to Heart of the Swarm, so this deserves to be on this list.
5. Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Was pleasantly surprised when I finished Human Revolution, was and still is a great game; love the story, and I love the gameplay. Definitely due for another playthrough.
6. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
It's a shame the studio responsible for this gem has shut down, this could have surely been a springboard for bigger and better things. Smooth combat and satisfying to boot, Amalur had me put so many hours into it that I have to put it on this list.
7. DiRT 3
Gotta have a racing game on here! Dirt 3 was a return to form for the series, with the focus put back on rallying. Fantastic rallying experience, and Gymkhana mode was just the icing on the cake.
8. Titan Quest: Immortal Throne
Yes, yes, I know it's years old, but I only discovered it in early 2011; I found it for $5 in a store and let me say it is the BEST $5 I have ever spent! Have put over 70 hours into it, and am going through on Epic difficulty.
With Titan Quest there is no reason to buy Diablo 3- just kidding, but if Diablo isn't your cup of tea, this "clone" does so much right that you shouldn't be disappointed. The Ancient Greek and Eastern setting is just absolutely wicked. A must play, especially since you can get it on steam for peanuts these days.
