TurboMan wants to have a skinny weiner! - Week 0

I'm Fat.

Don't believe me? Listen to what Scott Steiner says about me whenever my name is brought up:

Ever since middle school, I've continuously gained weight. Over the years, I never really considered being strict on my diet and exercising right. I was once on a path towards losing weight in high school when I was in high school wrestling mode, but after that I never went back to that mentality. Like most heavier set guys, I really didn't care to much about my weight. To me, I've felt fine about myself and I've never had any problems physically with my weight. I was confident and it didn't really seem like a big deal to me.

My friends never really mentioned it and besides the occasional jackass, nobody picked on me because of my weight. Even on Giant Bomb, I made a set of videos called "The Hamburger Review"... it was pretty good at the most part and made a few people chuckle, which is all I was trying to do. Even with all the positive responses from duders, I occasionally got somebody who heckled me for my weight.

So I was fine... until I got to College. There wasn't a big huge moment, but instead I became gradually more depressed with my look and image. I'm going to school now to become a high school teacher (in math), and I have no problem at all being in front of a group of people, but I've noticed that I don't even look at mirrors or reflections of myself now because I hate how I look, and I feel like I'm a different person inside. Over the past few weeks/month, I feel like it's became a form of depression for me. Now I'm at the point where I feel like I need to change up my life. The answer, you ask?

Yoga.

Yoga?

Yoga.

... Yoga?

DDP Yoga.

... What?

BANG!

I've been way into wrestling again for the past year, and there's something that a ton of wrestling fans are talking about. They're talking about how incredible of a weight loss program DDP Yoga is. I laughed it off at first, but the more people are getting into it, the more serious their testimonies are becoming. That and the fact that there are a good number of wrestlers that I think the world of are strictly using DDP Yoga as their workout routine has made me serious about trying out the system. DDP might as well been considered my role model at the age of ten, so the thought of him being a yoga instructor for me sounds perfect.

So... I just received the DVD today and I'm excited for results. And I'm planning to bring the Giant Bomb Universe up to date with my (hopefully) weight loss journey. I don't plan on stopping until I can do a Handstand for ten seconds.

I am excited to hear about your progress. I need DDP to diamond cut my fat away. Depending on if you think the DVD is worth it, I may pick it up. I don't get much exercise nowadays since I work from home so I definitely need to do something.

Wait, don't men desire the exact opposite of your thread title? Weight issues aside?

Good luck! I've lost a bunch of weight and it is incredibly satisfying. Sure some days you won't want to work out, but after you finish you feel great.

Good luck dude :D I look forward to seeing how you do. DDP Yoga seems like a kind of great thing, who knows, I may get into it at some point. Don't worry, eventually Scott Steiner will be so impressed that he will want to adopt you as his new gym buddy.

... wait, I would worry about that. But hey, you'll be able to outrun him if it comes to that! Hope you have fun with it, too.

Yoga is the shit man, before I messed up my back, I slimmed down quite a bit with yoga. Do it regularly and you'll notice the difference in your posture within weeks.

Be warned though, as someone who lost a ton of weight do it slowly. Took my body like a year to shape up, sagging skin bombers.. not cool.

Course you could lose it really fast and be fine, genetics are bitches.

Count calories, that's what I did.

Years ago I went to a nutritionist for help losing weight and the first thing she asked me was how many calories I was eating in a day...I couldn't answer her. She set a hard ceiling of 1500 per day and I didn't exceed that for a year and dropped 70 pounds, with very little exercise during that time. I was just eating too much crap. Find a calorie calculator online and figure out what your base caloric requirement is for a day - set your goal at 1500-1800 calories per day, and figure out what your daily deficit is. Every 3500 calories is a pound of fat....so if you set a daily caloric deficit of 500 per day, that's a pound of fat a week. It doesn't sound like a lot but that could be 40 pounds of fat loss or more in a year, more if you're even more overweight, and that's without exercise. Add exercise a few times a week and in no time you're going to look like you are carved out of wood.

I used a free app for the iPhone that I had at the time called LoseIt. I never ate a single thing that I didn't know exactly what was in it or about how many calories it was...takes a bit of time to get used to eating that way, but it's doable. A logbook or app to count your calories and a digital food scale are all you really need...it's not magic, it's all about discipline and eating the right amounts of healthy, whole foods. I cut out all drinks with calories, almost all processed foods, sugars, deserts, all of it. I was all about lean protein and fresh vegetables and a limited amount of fruits. Try it out.

Love me some Yoga. My main motivation is not being the lone fatty in a room full of hotties. I'm deep like that....

edit - although like MB says, the trick to losing weight is watching what you eat, not how much you exercise. Yoga will just give you a tight body, no good if its covered in fat.

Go for it, man! Don't lose hope, keep pushing, even when your body doesn't want to! Your brain is more powerful than your body, so let it run things.

Good Luck man. Yoga might have some weird stigma attached to it, but it is a serious workout. As a wrestling fan and a health and exercise fan, I am going to check this out.

If I trust anyone, I'd trust DDP. I've been doing random exercise at home for quite a while, but this looks like the exact sort of structured program I've been looking for. Thanks for linking to it.

I've lost about 40 pounds over the past six months. I was about 265-270 at my heaviest, and I'm currently sitting right around 225.

Portion control is your biggest ally. You don't even really need to change up your diet that much unless you're living off fast food or something. Just eat 1/2-2/3 of what you normally would. It'll take some getting used to, but your body will adjust to it. I lost my first 25 pounds or so just by changing the amount I ate without doing any real exercise.

Last Halloween I made it my mission to lose weight. I did the Atkins diet (low carbohydrates) and since then I have lost over 50 pounds. Good luck on your journey man, and I guarantee it will be worth it when you are through. :)
