It was fascinating to watch the evolution of this game's public perception. When everything was new and shiny, people were so excited about it! So many people were into it, and a lot of people really believed this was the next big thing in MMOs. And then, just as quickly as it burst out of the gates, the entire house of cards imploded so dramatically Icarus would have blushed.  I mean, there have been entertaining MMO failures before (sup Hellgate), but this one really was amazing.

Maybe Funcom will salvage this like they salvaged Anarchy Online. I'm looking forward to trying AoC out in 2012.

I think a lot of people have some extremely rose-tinted memories of the original Skate. It's one of my favorite games of all time, and I still play(ed) it (until the Skate 2 demo dropped). Yes, Skate 2 is different, but only slightly, and only in ways that vastly improve the experience once you adjust. They did not sell out, they did not Tony Hawkify the game, and they did not, under any circumstances, offer less customization options than were available before (The hairstyle options in the original were abysmal, OneManFreakShow). If you're feeling let down by the demo, play it and then go back to Skate and see if your conceptions hold up.

The demo is fast-paced in order to show the new features and the timer's a bummer, but Jesus, it's a demo. It's not a sign that EA is out to screw you over and eat your loved ones.  It sucked having to restart the original demo after thirty minutes, too. The difference is that Skate is no longer a brand new concept which required a lot of time to learn. Ergo, shorter demo for the sequel.

I started reading EGM when I was seven years old. I didn't exactly read it religiously, but the closure of something I'd held in my hands at both 7 and 23 is utterly bizarre. It was pretty clear that the end was coming, but the acquisition/bloodbath was a sad, dramatic conclusion.

The podcasts were what made me visit 1up regularly, and even though veritable game journalism gods Jeff Green and Shawn Elliott left for greener pastures, 1up was still a unique, vibrant site. "Was" being the operative word, there.

I was honestly not too into it the first two playthroughs, but there's just something about it that keeps calling me back.

It's been a week and I still don't know what to think, but I'm leaning towards liking it. Maybe.
