Is Tien really human? If so, is that third eye the real deal or what?
Tien
Character » appears in 64 games
One of Goku's allies in the struggle to protect Earth in the Dragon Ball Z saga.
So, is that eye functional?
I'm glad you all gave Vinny such useful info...ugh...
As far as I know, his eye doesn't seem to play any sort of role in the anime, however I have definitely seen it move before, so it's not just painted on or anything; it's a real eye. Like most of the Dragon Ball characters Tien is based on a character from Journey to the West, who also had three eyes. The third eye is from "becoming enlightened" as wikipedia puts it. Wikipedia als says its possible Tien is a decendant from an anchient alien race, now I'm really confused.
Maybe there was an episode where something was said about his eye or he did something crazy with it, but I don't remember it. It's like the other characters don't even notice it or something... 0_o
Meh, it was just something to make him different from the rest and not just being bald, because krillin already was.
It was either Tien or Yamcha who did some power to look way into the distance during the Buu saga so if it was Tien, I presume that's what the eye is for.
Yeah, the eye works. In his first appearance, he used it to see through Goku's afterimage trick. I believe the exact quote is, "you can't fool my three eyes".

Super-vision FTW :D I may have to find a clip of this somewhere...So, he's got way better vision and can see through illusions as a result. Of course, that doesn't really come into play that often, so after Dragon Ball it just became a decoration."

What?... He does the Tri-beam with his hands...
Although I suppose that funky zoom-in thing he does while doing the attack may have something to do with his third eye.
