E3 2012 Day 1 Impressions

Now that the Nintendo Press conference has been held, and a whole bunch of new gameplay trailers and demos have been shown, I'm continuing my daily impressions on E3.

Now, these are the top 10 games that impressed me yesterday, weather they were on stage or not. I won't re-hash anything I said on my Day 0 list, so if you want my impression of anything shown at the first four press conferences that day, check out my other list here.

List items

  • In control of a group of large superheroes, this game by Platinum Games looked incredible, and super crazy, and I expect nothing less from the people who brought us stuff like Okami and God Hand. Easily my most anticipated Wii U title yet, and it gives me hope that there can be interesting 3rd party titles on the system.

  • Having not played the previous two Pikmin games, I'm not entirely sure what to think about this new one. However, just seeing it in action kind of makes me want to go pick up a copy of Pikmin or Pikmin 2... It looks really good, and if I get a Wii U It'll definitely be one of the games I pick up for it.

  • What can I say about Hitman? The level I saw reminded me of the Mardi Gras level from Hitman: Blood Money, it had a large crowd, and it was pretty impressive. The most important thing, however... is that this game looks exactly like more Hitman. I don't know about you guys, but it's been far too long if you ask me. Consider me hyped.

  • It's Scribblenauts, but now with an in-depth object creator, and HD graphics? DUDE, YES!

  • It may have some more to prove about the control mechanics, being on the Wii U and whatnot, but now that they've actually shown more then just a pre-rendered trailer, and they've got some gameplay out there, consider me cautiously interested in this new Zombie game.

  • I remember the first Planetside pretty fondly, and it seems like they're doing some smart things in this one to get you into the action faster, while still keeping that large open world with tons of players. Plus, it's free-to-play? This one is a no-brainer!

  • So, I really enjoyed Geist, but it seems like nobody made any games like that afterwards... until now. Don't get me wrong, Dishonored does do some other cool stuff, but the main thing that interested me is taking over different types of creatures and traversing the world to sneak up on unsuspecting enemies. I still need to see more on it, but It's pretty cool looking from what I saw.

  • While I'm not sure what to think about talking Legos yet... if any game showed me why it's a good idea, it's this one. Basically GTA: Lego City Stories, you might not be shooting up the cops and stomping hookers in the crotch until they're dead... but hey, it's LEGO, right? I'm interested in seeing how an open world Lego game handles itself, and this game seems to have some good humor in it as well.

  • Not much was shown, but the new trailer that they did show for Lollipop Chainsaw still made me go "Ha! oh man! this game is so crazy!"

So, well done... mission accomplished. Really, I was already sold on this game months ago, but the E3 Trailer was still pretty cool, and showed a few more gameplay bits that I'm definitely interested in.

  • People may be freaking out over Dante's new redesign, but I'm not a huge fan of the first 4 Devil May Cry games. I'm not super invested in that character, so all I'm looking at is the gameplay, and it looks pretty solid! It looks kind of standard as far as character-action games go, but in the boss battle I saw, the boss' design was FUCKING GROSS, and by that I mean it was perfect. Well done, Capcom, I'd like to see more. :)
