Built a new PC. Added a water cooler. It is apparently beyond overkill.

My top 10 NES games (as a child)

My top 10 NES games, based on the opinions of my 5-8 year old self.

List items

  • The game that started my love affair with Squaresoft games on Nintendo systems, as well as the game to introduce me to RPGs. Sure, it hasn't aged well, but that didn't stop me from playing it on occasion.

  • The makers of Double Dragon decided to add RPG elements to create a damn good Nintendo game, and one of my personal favorites as a kid. Probably because NES games were freaking difficult, and you could raise stats quite a bit in this game by chowing down on food and using passwords.

  • In hindsight, Mega Man 2 is better in several ways. Doesn't matter; I spent more time with version as a kid. I think we finally beat it as a group after a weekend long sleepover and multiple, multiple failures.

  • Action packed and still playable today. Screw team USSR.

  • Yes, the arcade version was better. Still, we were so obsessed with this game, that when our parents wouldn't let us go to the arcade to waste several dollars on it, we would settle for a weekend rental of the inferior NES version.

It was also infinitely better than the original NES game, which this was dubbed as a sequel to.

  • See Mega Man 3 comments.

  • Quite possibly the first video game I ever beat.

    (Insert Konami Code here.)

  • Yeah, it's not really a Mario game, but I still liked it more than the other two games. The first level theme is still one of my favorites to play on guitar.

  • For a game I was pretty bad at, I was absolutely enraptured with the setting. It's probably because of the early attempt at cinematics and the 80s/early 90s obsession with ninjas.

  • A more advanced Zelda or a single player precursor to the Secret of Mana series. Your choice. Either way, an incredibly underrated NES game.
