PC games for Macs?

I know I know, macs are stupid, I should just buy a PC. But i'm never going to do that, so what are my other options? Screw Tetris and Peggle and MMOs, I want legit games.  I have Machinarium already, what else is available?

World of Goo is a must have. Beyond that though, there isn't much. Get CoD MW if you don't own it for a console for sure, and if Spore's your thing you could try that. I personally like playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, but that probably isn't for most. And that's pretty much every big name game released on Mac covered.

Ever considered putting Windows on your Mac? Sure it means dealing with Windows, but it gives you access to a million times more games.

Yeha, I've considered it, but it's a 2006, and i've got about 33GB left on my hard drive. So yeah, I could... I dunno if it's worth it just for games though?

Some clever person was able to get Mass Effect working natively in OSX...I'm playing it now and it is awesome, even if some of the textures are rather screwy.  Sins of the Solar empire as well. Oh and they've also got Steam up and running under OSX, though they say there's goin to be an official version. I was able to get my Company of Heroes working on it. L4d1 and 2 works pretty well on the mac, as well as most of the over valve games.
You can also get Bioshock, C&C3, Red Alert, all Blizzard games, Age of Empires...
tons of games really. If it works in Wine, it'll work in OSX with a little help and knowhow.

@Virago: If you don't have a console (or won't), Windows might not be a bad idea. But you'll probably need a hard drive upgrade too, so it can get expensive. I'm personally about to install Windows 7 so that I can play Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, Team Fortress 2 and Zombie Driver (and that's it), but I have plenty of hard drive space and a free license of Windows 7 from my school so my only "cost" is the hour it'll take to install.

With a toothpick, piece of lint, and small section of string you can make your Mac run the fun, fun Alt + F4 game. Oh wait, no you fucking can't.

If you just want to play games you can DL a cracked bootleg of XP from any torrent site and run that thru Bootcamp or VM Ware or Parallels, I can't think of any games besides Halo 2 that make you have Vista or 7.  There are even some cracks that are 'light' versions of Windows, like they don't have Paint, Wordpad, etc so that'd save you on HDD space.  When you don't want it anymore you can just delete the Windows partition from OSX too w/o having to uninstall anything.
*edit*
Piracy isn't cool, but MS doesn't even sell XP anymore and a new copy of Windows 7 is $200 USD, I don't think there is any harm in DLing a decade old OS to play games on your Mac.

Yes, but you have to have Snow Leopard in order to run it. Word from the wise right here. I spent 50 bucks, went to install BOOM! I didn't have Snow Leopard....it's still sitting on my desktop...all 7 gigs...

Winebottler is great (read: invaluable), if the game you're wanting to run is in Wine's compatibility list. The best thing is that it's free.

I'd suggest Torchlight, but the Mac client still isn't out, that I know of.

EA had started putting some of their stuff on the Mac as well so Sims 3 Spore and Battlefield games are on Mac. Besides that not too sure about other games even though I have a Mac I really only play console games. Besides Sims 3 when I want to burn some time.

Even though you already counted this out you can generally get the same quality computer for much cheaper than a Macintosh. If you really like the OS then just install it on the cheaper computer. There's really no reason to buy the Mac hardware.

The are lots of reasons, far many to bother explaining to you or anyone else.  If you don't get that now, you never will.  However, I play a lot of PC games on the Windows partition and nothing else.  Everything else the Mac does - best of both worlds, ultra reliable and totally worth the money.

Try CrossOver Games by CodeWeavers. I used it for a bit. Its pretty buggy but compatible with allot o games. They have a big compatibility list on the site.

I just bit the bullet a few weeks ago and put XP on mine. Been playin the shit out of steam games now.... Yeah way late to steam I know but when you are used to the desolate mac catalog of games steam is effing awesome.

Yes.  In 8 years of running Mac, I have had a sum total of one problem when a hard drive died (which was easily replaced and all the data was retrieved).  That is an e-Mac, an i-Mac and a Macbook.  My friend runs a Mac shop, so I get a good feel for what goes wrong, and yes, some problems do occur with some units, just like all electronics, but compared to the hassles I had running Windows prior to that, and running Windows at work, I couldn't be happier.  Each has their place, depending on what it is you need to do with them.

@oldschool: I don't know, man, my experience with the hardware I put together myself hasn't been much worse than that. Back when I had a dell, the HD went out a couple months after buying it, and because I bought a shitty case I've got constant airflow problems with my current custom, but otherwise I've had no problems, and I've never been as cautious with my tower as I should be.

I think to imply that the hardware you buy from newegg or whatever is going to be unreliable is a huge exaggeration, at least.

I had one of their large downloadable security patches wreck my MBP last summer or so.  I was able to fix it by rebuilding the OS from the DVD & then loading the backup system. It was a pain but it all worked.

I have Spore & its expansions installed on my MBP.  Don't really use it for games that much. Mostly just Mac stuff & VMware Fusion for running XP (for Rhapsody) & Ubuntu.

I believe what I was trying to say was that in comparison, the Mac is likely to be far more reliable - like a PS3 versus a 360  :-)
