odds are that neither MIDI-over-USB nor drum/keyboard hybrids will be supported (why would you want to play drums on the drum pads on the Axiom, anyway? they're miniscule.) particularly as the only instrument that's allowed to be controller-less is the microphone.
I'm not sure about the stock drums (there's no separate 'pro' drum kit for RB3, just cymbal expansions for the drums), but it looks (from Amazon's pictures) like the pedal design has changed since RB1; it looks like it's got a metal plate on top and it might be a little lower.
however, if you've got an electronic kit at your house, at the beginning of December they'll be releasing MIDI to XB360 boxes that you can connect between the drum brain and your console. I'm a drummer too, and this is how I'm going to be playing RB3.
if you've got an acoustic kit, you might be able to get some acoustic-electronic triggers, a cheap drum brain, and the MIDI boxes to play with your acoustic drums as well.
@Shirogane: as mentioned above, it's serving as a loading screen as well. if you'd rather see 15 seconds of black screen than the intro video while it starts, you can go to My Documents -> My Games -> SM Civ5 -> UserSettings.ini, and change "SkipIntroVideo = 0" to "SkipIntroVideo = 1".
cleaner than that (I saw this on the Steam forums a couple of minutes ago), go to My Documents -> My Games -> Sid Meier's Civilization 5, and edit UserSettings.ini
change "SkipIntroVideo = 0" to "SkipIntroVideo = 1".
it's also still as slow as it would be if the intro video played, but I guess if you're not a fan of logos and "WELCOME BACK, MY SON, I MISSED YOU" over and over again, hey, there you go.
"I can agree with a lot of what people are talking about here. Has anyone else noticed a general drop in performance the longer you play? On my comp it manifests in a memory-leaky kind of way, the fps drops about 50% but restarting the game bumps it immediately back up to playing normally. Also is anyone having problems because of the opening cinematic? When I try to skip it, it plays on for a good few seconds before going to the menu but if I have a crash, I'll very often see the cinematic ...still there? Difficulty to explain but it's like it was paused 'under' the game all the time I was playing. "
yeah, this happens for me too. however, what's happening is that hardware-accelerated video requires a specific surface to draw onto; presumably the game builds that surface and then draws the rest of the game over top of it once it's no longer necessary. I don't think it's actually playing in the background the whole time.
"Frankly, I think they just went for "the safe bet" when choosing charities. Something that nobody could rightly take issue with (my aunt spent twenty years in Kenya and Mocha, Zambia teaching at and running a nursing school). Frankly, I think they could have made a bigger difference in the world giving $250,000 to a charity that helps people in most of these same places have clean drinking water. What good is being able to read, if you can't even drink without being infested with some sort of liver-destroying colony of worms? Charity is charity, so it's all great. But what an odd selection they gave. Especially considering their audience. They basically said "would you like bread or bread? Or maybe bread or bread or even bread? Or you could try some lovely bread. Or even tonight's special -- bread."
yeah, there are definitely more-interesting charities out there that still do fundamental work, like the thousands of charities that build wells. (my personal favorite charity is Doctors Without Borders.)
but I can't really begrudge Firaxis their choice of theme.
"Why would you bring a conquered civ back in to the game? "
it would be great if, similar to the "total concession" option in the previous civs, it made that civ completely subservient to you for the rest of the game, and that's why I did it
