@butterstick1: Xenoblade games definitely have issues with explaining things during battle, which might be what prompted endless tutorializing of 3. I don't think any of them are even that deep to require so many little explanations, as effectively all battles play out mostly the same.

I would call myself a fan of Xenoblade 1, but it seems like I will not care about this series going forward, as it was the only game to actually grab me. While 3 is definitely more of a sequel to 1, and is so actively allergic to random sex jokes that it starts with presenting you with a world where no one is horny, I do think the amount of cutscenes isn't justified for the story. 1 was a bit more minimalist, while 3 feels bloated. Ironically, I think 1 actually takes place in a better world that I would like to learn more about.

While I'm enjoying the podcast, it's a bit weird hearing two people who are familiar with JoJo one of which is a supposed expert fumble that many details. From one scene being outright spoiled (somehow *not correctly*) to not being able to recall how the cigarette censorship worked or not being sure about music references or why they were changed. Come on, JoJo wiki is right there.

Also, the violence definitely *does* get worse in parts, mainly by going from fantasy sticking people into people to some more "realistic" shit (achieved via magic, but the result is the same nonetheless). Araki LOVES gore and he turned people into various shapes and cut into so many pieces where if you're not squeamish about one gorey moment across all 8 parts, there's probably something wrong with you.

I definitely hope this does well enough for them to at least cover Part 3/Season 2, mainly because it's where Araki finally gets what he wants to do with the series. Kinda hard to say you know what JoJo when you haven't even reached Stands.

It's funny how some people mentioned Looney Tunes because I feel like it's one of the main inspirations for Part 2.

I don't think there are any references to actual song lyrics, as Araki isn't really that proficient in English even nowadays. He mostly likes songs' vibes, and outside of naming conventions I can only remember one time when a song name was used in an unrelated context.

@cashewual: They very likely are, as the first season of the show covers both part 1 and 2.

@tartyron: I will disagree with one commenter above. It's a comedy. And despite how it's presented, it's very dry.

It's one of those things where you're not sure if the author meant something to be funny, but as you become more familiar with their work, it's clear that he did. It's just not very gag-based and doesn't spend time on actual "jokes", more just weird dialogue and situations that make you say "What just happened?". I would compare it to Metal Gear humor in that regard.

Only a few jokes are immediately obvious, and they're usually the weakest part of the humor in JoJo.

It's one of the best comedy anime there is because of that. Usually, with adaptations from manga, you get overly shouty and clear punchlines. Characters going "WHAAAAT" and making silly faces akin to a sitcom laugh track. There's none of that in JoJo.

It's a dumb totally self-aware romp that takes masculine heterosexual shows and dips them into a weird queer atmosphere (I would assume accidentally at first, just because the author is obsessed with fashion).

Exciting!

JoJo is definitely one of the best animes I've seen simply because it's so... Unique? It also barely has any of the gross shit anime is known for.

Shame it's only the first two parts because I think it only gets better, but I guess it can't be helped, as with recap it would take forever.

Also wish Gerstmann would be here, as I thought the name implied, though.

@misterreese: Funnily enough, this episode is what made me more interested in the show after Stands were introduced in a fairly boring way, to me. While gross in a way this show never becomes afterward, it shows that it can basically be something like Futurama or Doctor Who in terms of sheer creativity.

@tartyron: I could never hundred percent those games and only fought Amon in, like, half, but I can definitely see the logic. I definitely didn't put down Kiwami like I did 3 (that hostess minigame is something) in terms of side content.

0 also has my favorite joke in the series, in the statue substory. It's really funny as a whole, but people being glued to a dumb attraction and you managing to pry them away for a second before a woman goes "Welp, back to the statue" had me in tears the first time I've played.

@jarp12: Oh yeah, it's totally fine, play how you want. And there are definitely some major fuck you moments, like those maze castles. Beating the world only to waste your lives trying to guess where to go is just the worst

I love this dumb game. It's not a bad game, too. It's still Nintendo level design, just with romhack philosophy. I think it's super enjoyable if you save every level, but even the original is pretty fun.

Still (one of?) the best platformers of all time. Shame I already have it (and I use my Wii U quite a lot still), but once it gets cheaper I'm totally ready to buy it again.
