Game prices on Xbox One

With all the controversy about Xbox One removing consumer rights, we were given talk of a benefit by some. Game prices could go down, just like game prices on steam. I decided to check game prices now, before the Xbone changes our buying and selling .

I collected the information on some games from the Giant Bomb reviews page to see there prices now. This doc contains the pricing from several retailers and digital prices when available.

I know this is a small data set but maybe some insight can be seen.

GameWalmartAmazonBestbuy
Injustice (360)39.9949.9939.99
Bioshock Infinite (360)39.9439.3539.99
Gears of War: Judgment (360)39.9947.6759.99
Dead Space 3 (360)35.0735.0839.99
GameAmazon(retail)Amazon(Download)
Sim City39.9859.99
Bioshock Infinite (PC)39.9859.99
Cysis 3 (PC)38.7039.99
Resident Evil 619.80 (360 no PC ver)39.99 (Steam no Amazon DL)
  1. Retail game prices do drop rather quickly. It seems either retail competition may lead to lower prices within a couple months. You can see Amazon and Walmart matching prices while Best Buy doesn't.
  2. Surprisingly the publisher controlled digital prices remain the same price as retail or are more expensive

I think this shows game prices are complex, retail prices do depreciate. Also publishers maybe hesitant to lower prices when they control pricing and there is limited competition.
