Star Trek: Starfleet Command. :D

Since they focus purely on the space combat- I'd recommend SFC over Star Trek Online. If you're really into TNG- get SFC 3, as that's based in TNG's time period (SFCs 1 and 2 are both based on a slightly-altered take of the original series. Star Trek loves its alternate time lines. :P ).

That said, the Starfleet Command games are relatively tricky to obtain these days. None of them are on GOG yet. :(

So if you have difficulty getting any of those three, Star Trek Online would be a decent fallback option given how its space combat is quite similar- if not slightly simplified and faster paced compared to the SFC games to my knowledge.

The SFC games can also be tricky to get running on some modern computers- keep that in mind as well. (Though on my current Windows 7 laptop, I managed to get the original to run just fine)

Also, In the case you end up getting into J. J. Abrams' reboot of the franchise- I'm really hoping the upcoming Star Trek game is good. >_>

Homeworld 2 is what immediately comes to mind for purchases I regret. It is the first game I ever pre-ordered, and it just turned out to be inferior to the original in almost every way. Not the sequel I was looking for at all. :(

Other purchases I've regretted include:

  • A Bug's Life (PS1)
  • No Man's Land (PC)
  • Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron (PSP)
  • Valhalla Knights 2 (PSP)
  • Empire Earth 2 (PC)
  • Star Wars: Empire at War (PC)
  • Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core (PSP)
  • Spore (PC)
  • Haze (PS3)
  • Garshasp: Temple of the Dragon (PC)
  • Hammerfight (PC)

Hammerfight and Temple of the Dragon were my most recent regrettable purchases. Wasn't a complete loss since I got both of them on sale though. :P

Gaming in the mid to late 90s is my main nostalgic era, no question. :D

  • Homeworld
  • Age of Empires 1 and 2
  • Lords of the Realm 2
  • Populous
  • Worms Armageddon
  • Caesar 3
  • Zeus (And the Poseidon expansion)
  • Crash Bandicoot
  • Spyro

The early 2000s have some nostalgia for me as well: (Primairly no further than 2004)

  • Age of Mythology
  • Wrath Unleashed
  • Star Wars: Battlefront
  • Stronghold (Crusader ESPECIALLY)
  • Medieval and Rome Total War
  • Kingdom Hearts 1

The range of targets in the fallout seems to be expanding a bit.

Arthur Gies started chiming in a while ago. Suffice to say, his statements have made him a definite secondary target of the controversy- he too is now being bombarded.

One of his recent tweets: "The biggest game of 2004 is still online, and has always been always-online."

https://twitter.com/aegies

Reading through a bunch of Arthur's tweets- it seems like a lot of people are targeting him hastily. Cause he's openly said he's not defending Microsoft here. He's just saying that the detractors of always-on haven't made a cohesive/readible argument yet. (At least not from his view)

Whelp, he's made his twitter account private. It wasn't that way a mere few hours ago- so that might not bode well... :P

The thing that gets me here is that one of his analogies literally shoots Microsoft in the foot if the Nextbox is indeed always-on.

"The mobile reception in the area I live in is spotty and un-reliable. I will not buy a mobile phone." he literally tweeted.

So... Replace 'Reception' with internet and 'mobile phone' with NextBox- and you see what happens. :P

but im also seeing rumblings on twitter that the durango event possibly got pushed to next month? sooo maybe they are so arrogant to actually do that but the noise from the internet is causing them to rethink things now.

I highly HIGHLY doubt the noise around these tweets has anything to do with the potential delay.

The noise of these tweets only started today- and there have been murmurings of the event delay for almost a week now on some sites.

So no, that delay has nothing to do with the fallout from these tweets. As loud as the backlash may seem to be- I doubt its loud enough for Microsoft to care just yet.

I got my refund by doing a charge back last week, but the game is still on my Origin account...I also claimed a free copy of Mass Effect 3 before. Wonder what will happen...if anything.

If and when EA notices what you've done- they will most likely ban your account.

EA considers charge-backs a declaration of war, and acts accordingly. >_>

Whelp. o_O

1.8 million population, 100% residential zoned- with no electricity, no water, and no sewage.

Granted- he has to set taxes to 0%... But that's the only concession he really had to make it seems.

Thoughts?

Is it irrelevant semantics? Is it further proof that Maxis has become an incompetent developer? Is it simply a hilarious zombie city? :P

It at the very least showcases just how poorly programed/thought out the new Simcity's inner workings seem to be. (Though was anything like this possible in the older Sim Citys? I don't remember it being possible at all in 4...)

We'll know for sure by next week or so (or longer :P ), but my prediction is that you're going to remain within the strict minority here.

Cause my gut feeling is that this won't be another GTA 4- I don't think Infinite's gonna have a comparable backlash.

There will inevitably be some- as there is with pretty much every AAA title- but odds are it won't be as sweeping as GTA 4's backlash seemed to be.

Meh. >_>

Exclusive reviews are silly things that cannot be trusted- at least not immediately.

If all the other 'journalistic' sites come out with similar reviews/scores, then the 'exclusive' element will be rendered mostly moot. Because signs would be good that it would've gotten that high a score anyway.

So we'll see how it flies once the rest of the internet get their grubby hands on it. :P (I unfortunately must suspect the good old "Anything under 9/10 is complete crap" belief will be taking effect for Infinite)

Eh, given the name and direction changes they've obviously been forced to take, I have my doubts that it'll be any good.

I can't shake the gut feeling that it'll end up feeling rushed- as all the other C&C franchises are being shoved in. (BOTH Tiberium and Red Alert are planned apparently- along with the original Generals 2 stuff)

One plus side I can immediately see of this is that it'll be at least a partial reboot for the Tiberium stuff. C&C4 never happening may indeed become official. :P
