Some 3D stuff (recent and old)

Here's a city scene heavily inspired by Mirror's Edge. Also made a low-res vehicle for it, but it's still a work in progress:

Here's a wireframe shot of part of the scene and most of the background:

Here's some work on the actual vehicles, including the animation rig (suspension, etc):

Some global Illumination renders of the vehicle alone (inspired by the Israeli UGV Gardium):

Here's another portfolio piece, a high res model of a FN SCAR-L with some addons, like a custom saw-style pistol grip, a custom buttstock, an EOTECH dot sight, an ANPEQ2 laser/LED, and of course, the EGLM 40mm grenade Launcher:

And here is some weird organic stuff (I don't specialize in organic modeling so it's a little noobish):

Well, it's pretty nice stuff. Forgot to say that. Much better than anything I've ever created on a computer.

Cool.  I especially like the weapon details.  The vehicle looks a bit cartoony compared to the rest, but I fail at all art related material so I can't complain.  I'll stick to my prospects of programming.

3dsmax and mudbox for mechanical

3dsmax and zbrush for organic

photoshop for textures

I'll have more stuff to post once I'm done with the current Ubi project, I've been a lazy artist :)

If i may ask, how long did it take you to reach this level of professionalism? I'm studying Computer Graphics and been wondering if being a Modeler for the rest of my life is beneficial enough.

Just used a lot of programs early on, started actually with AutoCAD R14 back when I was a kid because my father's an engineer, then moved to photoshop, and then 3dsmax, and etc, zbrush being the one of the newer programs I have gotten used to. Being a modeler is really fun yeah, if you like games and potentially would like working in game dev, making props and stuff is really fun, though I suggest you dont limit yourself to just modeling but try sculpting as well, as in high res zbrush 3D sculpting, it will get you far in the industry if you become good at that and not just simple modeler.
3d sculpting opens up doors to not only game developement but also the CGI industry, movies, toys and collectibles (sideshow toys, hot toys..)

Yeah Ive tried Vray, though I've settled with MentalRay since it has become 3dsmax's standard (and XSI, Maya) and also i dont consider myself a render specialist, im more of a "asset producer" so I like easy render engines :) Great renders btw!

I guess it's the shader I applied to the model that makes it look like a toy, yep!

--

I'll be updating with better stuff soon, being on Ubisoft projects provides such an exponential growth of experience throughout relatively short amount of time, so even though these were semi-recent assets, what I do now is arguably a hundred times better. It just sucks most of what I do is NDA, hopefully soon I will be able to show more stuff (ex: James Cameron's Avatar assets).

Heres some recent stuff, the stuff in the first pic are slightly "plain" because they are meant for 3D printing->small statue/toy and the printer usually adds grain to the product anyway. Second screenshot are just random space boots for chicks as a quick doodle, its missing some stuff like the clips to fasten the boot flap:

I made my first 3D model yesterday actually. But I have no idea how to put textures on it and I can't find any information on how to do so. Have you ever used Softimage Mod tool 7.5? Probably not D: "

Thats a great looking model / topology for your first 3D model! Unfortunately, I haven't used that software, as a side-note you can export the 3D file as OBJ and it can be read by almost any other 3D program (zbrush, max, maya, mudbox..)

Really nice. I've tried to model stuff in 3D before, but it was way too complicated for me.

I'll see what I can do with the exporting.
I've never used Mudbox before, but compared to Zbrush, which do you prefer?

I haven't used mudbox too much so my biased answer would be Zbrush, but on the other hand Zbrush is an industry standard in both CGI and games and *once* you get used to the downright moronic UI, it's an extremely powerful app that will let you sculpt tens of millions of polys with ease.
