@vinny: Definitely would prefer multiple streams instead of this combination. But I'd also rather YOUR feed take up the full screen. I don't see the point in cropping the gameplay to put up borders that serve no purpose.
Vinny, please don't become an overlay person. The initial view looked great, you don't need to put a graphic that takes up so much space on the screen. I'm willing to give up 5% of a corner of the game view if it doesn't sacrifice 15% of my screen.
Agreed. It doesn't add anything useful to the presentation (neither does Jeff's). Very few streamers (that I have watched) ever use one, and the ones that do only use it to show Twitch chat in the stream while searching for a match (when they play games of that type). There may be streamers out there that do have an overlay on the whole time, but I know I'd never watch those streams.
As a side note, I don't find face cams add anything, either. Especially in a stream that's on a pay-site behind a pay wall. Sure, it shows what you look like, but anyone watching this already knows that. I can see using it on whatever stream goes out to Twitch for sure. And I am fully aware that face cams are not ever going away.
All that being said, I bought this game because you guys played it, so thank you. I'm not "done", and probably won't watch the end of today's streams until I am, but thank you for showing me this game. Easily my favorite feature of Lockdown 2020.
I really enjoy the Vinny and Brad streams (as well as the trucking one with Vinny and Alex). Especially with both streams up and running (I watch later and sync them).
Astroneer especially, as they got me to buy the game and I'm loving it so far.
@leraa: I know Brad mentions 1 is more inscrutable than 2, but having played 1 first, 2 seems more simplistic than 1.
The biggest real difference (and I haven't yet finished a map on 2 - only on my 5th day) is there's less "story" in 2. Not that there's a TON in 1, but it's the first thing I noticed a year + ago when I played 2 for the first time. But both are, basically, the same game. I'd call 2 1.5 instead, with both upgrades and downgrades.
But still fun (especially after so much time away from the games). It and World War Z (now free on the Epic store) are what I'll likely play for the next week or so. Maybe longer?
I bought SoD 1 after seeing the SoD 2 Quick Look. Really enjoyed SoD 1. Got SoD 2 right after finishing 1, and didn't quite enjoy it as much.
But this reminded me I have it, and am downloading the Juggernaut update (am on PC) as I type this. I think it's been a long enough time away from this style of game for me to enjoy this one now - especially with the free time I've suddenly come into lately.
Comparing this to watching the Mass Effect 2 playthrough (a game I played through 2 or 3 times when it was new), it's shocking how lifeless the NPCs look here.
I did play the free demo weekend, and wasn't very impressed. Seeing this is just firming that impression in my mind. The UI, NPCs, loading screens, mission design and really everything other than the act of flying around seem so poorly done in Anthem. Technically fine, but just shockingly soulless.
Jeff really hates Anthem so far, complete opposite for me. The gameplay was fantastic and I'm intrigued by the story snippets I've seen. Barely shoot my guns, end up mainly using abilities and flying around like a madman.
First impressions for me is that the combat is fun, but without very impactful ability upgrades and weapons, it will get repetitive pretty quickly. If it's just ability combo, fire a few bullets, ability, fly, ability, super, fly, etc, I don't see it being long-term fun (for me).
I know it had it's share of criticisms, but I really miss the tank/heal/dps trinity of MMOs. It gave each person a role, and each role had a purpose. Healing seems to have been discarded from co-op gaming, generally. I miss it.
Anthem definitely is hoping you bring your friends (RL or online) to really have fun, ala Destiny.
Brad is allowed to defend one of the best games he's played. Perhaps, gasp, he doesn't agree with you on the flaws.
My overall impression wasn't that he was defending it, but that he was defending it AND begrudgingly acknowledging Dan's (and others', later) issues with it AND THEN completely dismissing issues that Dan and anyone else had with the game to the point that he and Alex seemingly refused to be able to comprehend it getting onto the Most Disappointing list, even though it was Dan's most disappointing game of, I think he said, all time.
For myself, I had no interest in it due to it being a Western. The discussion around it actually turned me away from ever touching it due to the gameplay issues it seems to have (I always value gameplay over story). It doesn't sound fun to PLAY, but it sounds like it's fun to be IMMERSED IN (if that's your thing).
From the Most Disappointing discussion, it was clear to me that Fallout 76 didn't deserve to be on that list (even though it is likely the worst game of those in contention) because it was exactly what they said it would be (it was NOT Fallout 5) with more than the average amount of Bethesda bugs. From what I can gather, Abby and Ben disappointed themselves by wanting it to be something other than what it was announced to be from day 1.
Whereas Red Dead 2 actually did disappoint at least Dan, and had issues others noticed as well.
It reminded me of Destiny 1 - both on Most Disappointing and Best Game, except the roles were reversed. I should go back and watch/listen and see how others reacted to Brad insisting it being on the Best list, even though I don't believe anyone else thought it belonged there.
Edit - did relisten to the Destiny discussion. Came away convinced that Brad simply doesn't hear what people actually say when he's passionate about something. Patrick and Alex (the two most vocal opponents, as well as Jeff, somewhat) repeatedly said they didn't enjoy what was there (and that there wasn't much there) other than the shooting mechanics. Bad mission designs, very little actual loot in a loot game, etc. Brad's response was to DEFEND it because he seemed to hear them say there wasn't enough content, and not including it "because there wasn't more of it" wasn't a good reason. Patrick and Alex had to remind him they didn't actually like most of what was there.
