@mellotronrules: Yep. Considering it's almost been ::checks:: three months since Abby played this game, and also adding onto the fact that everyone plays only an hour of it every three weeks, I'm not expecting much. I figured the whole point of this was to go as far as they can and not necessarily finish the game. Either they win or they die. I guess I enjoy watching them mess up as much as them completing a mission perfectly; it's part of the fun.
It may also just be me, but it feels like this feature ran its course last year and continuing it again after a long break is more mandatory than something they're excited to do. Jeff and Dan are excited about DBZ. Alex and Vinny (and sometimes Dan) were excited about Yakuza 0. They could still be enjoying themselves, but this feels a little compulsory so they can finish what they started. Who knows.
Its not a GOTY deliberation until Alex gets one of his favorite games stomped into the dirt.
I kinda don't like how they made PUBG eligible because they SAID it would be out this year and gave a date because there's still a chance it doesn't come out. It should only be included when the 1.0 version is actually out the door when they sit down to talk about all this. Or add a "Best Unfinished Game" category to honor it. Jeff talks about how they don't want to change the rules for one game.....but they kinda did.
Yup. Glad someone else noticed. Worried he's bending the rules (who cares, it's not our list) and just does it anyway?
I think it was a poor decision by Jeff. All these great early access games to give the perfect reason to change the rules, and then don't? These were the *same people* who complained how old news Gang Beasts was once it's finally came out and it just isn't the same as when it was in early access. Literally the same people in the same room giving a very good reason to include unfinished games in the deliberations.
Also I think there needs to be a cut-off point each year. Any game that comes out between Thanksgiving-ish and New Year's will be in contention for the following year. Any game that comes out in December might as well not exist anyway, unless it's PUBG, apparently.
I don't understand why Brad is so cold on tallying once there's a lull in the deliberations. It's a quick and easy way to measure the temperature in the room without actually committing to anything yet. The ones that don't have anything can then be talked about whether it hangs or not. Doesn't mean it's over for those particular games, it just expedites the conversation instead of talking in circles, which they do often.
