Acoustic vs. Electronic [Music Blog]

Hey all.
 
I do these music blogs to kind of keep a diary of how far I have come in learning all things Reason 5 and if nothing else it will probably make me laugh in a few years. If you find the track interesting feel free to leave a comment. I'm most curious what games you associate with it because I like writing for game trailers too and there are plenty of ideas to use from this.

I'm trying to get into music creation; more so mimicking realistic sounding "five man bands" so to speak. However, I'm pretty overwhelmed with where to start. There are so many options for software and audio packs to go with. I'll probably have to pay some measurable coin to end up with a decent set of tools, but I don't want to invest in something to advanced for me to grasp since I'm already a poor college student with no actual knowledge of musical composition.

@Origina1Penguin: I had planned to go into a lot of detail about how I made this piece. I might do that if it helps I'm just tired after finally finishing this.
 
I started using Reason 4 like a year ago after I saw Hamst3r's Giant Bomb music video. This is everything he uses
 
What I use is a crappy Dell Laptop, Reason 5 (I only use the soundbank it comes with), a 22" monitor (which helps space wise but not essential) and a M-Audio Oxygen 8 Keyboard (You need a keyboard and this one will set you back £50 well worth it). You can make music at a pretty low cost but I agree it's scary to choose a program. I suggest you download demos of Reason, Logic, Reaper etc and find a guide or video guide. I found a really helpful guide for Reason which I downloaded from the internet and it really helped to get started. Don't worry about soundbanks at the start just use the ones which come with the music program as that will keep you busy for a while.
 
Like Hamst3r says you don't need a lot of music theory knowledge. If you listen to a lot of music then you will get good at knowing how to write exactly what you want. 
 
It's mostly problem solving;
 
  • Why does this sound shit? 
  • What do I need to do to fix it?
Have a listen to the tracks on my youtube channel. I think this is the first one where I hardly got frustrated or had no idea what to do to fix problems which appeared. You have to learn the music program just like someone would learn to draw. Eventually you will use all the hot keys and know how to create the sounds you hear in your head. I'm by no means close to that but I feel good after writing this. It sounds funny but you have to practice composing to get good at composing. A lot of the mental barriers you face will disappear with every piece you do and those steps you stumbled on before become a lot easier the next time.
 
Everyone who does this stuff has been in your situation. Choose a program you get a good impression of and start to learn it. The internet is your friend if money is really tight ;)

hey buddy, I meant to tell you this a week and a half ago. I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!

I think it is soooo amazing :) I thought you might like to know that as of 5 minutes ago, I have this song in my itunes under the artist of X19 :)

Anyway, is there any more of this stuff that you have done? If so, may I please please be able to check it out?
