The new status bar VS My idea?

So the new update to the site today moved the status bar up north and it looks way better. I like having the bottom of my page back.

However, I think it still has room for improvement, so I did a quick mockup of a version which has some more info, wastes less space, and has a bigger avatar.

I included the old one in the picture for comparison, I have no idea why the yellow got more washed out in mine =P probably when I flattened it in photoshop or something...

Also, fonts and stuff would be different obviously, and spacing adjusted a bit better (The lvl 15 is kinda squished). Also the exp bar is diagonal for fun, it practice it would be hard to read accurately =P

So what are your thoughts? Would you like more information on the bar? Maybe a Quests drop down menu of some kind? Personally I just dislike the LVL 15 font and size, and the avatar is smaller because of it.

PS: You get 2 bonus friends if you use mine haha.

Quick Look: Giant Bomb

Giant Bomb has been responsible for many great and hilarious moments since its creation, some of which are truly legendary moments that fans of the site, and of the Giant Bomb crew, will remember for a long time. However, as the site’s userbase continues to grow, the percentage of people that have been here since the beginning decreases. So I want to take this thread and collect some of the most unique, entertaining, hilarious, and funny moments in the history of Giantbomb.com in the hope that new members will be able to visit this thread to catch up on all the great videos that have been created, and old members will be able to remember all the hilarious videos that exist.

So let’s get this walk down memory lane started! And please feel free to suggest any other video or what-have-you that I have forgotten, or that you think deserves to belong in here.

The best place to start would be with the video that explains exactly what Giantbomb.com is—It’s a Website!

Of course, we all know exactly what Giant Bomb is, because it’s the only place to watch that video or read this thread!  But how many of you remember the How to Build a Bomb series of videos that were created during the early days of the site. Its crazy to watch those old videos and see the empty building that is now incredibly packed with stuff. Also... they have a room with a toilet in it in the basement, which seems like a great place to hold someone captive.

For your enjoyment, may I present the 10 part series detailing the creation of Giant Bomb:

How to Build a Bomb

And that good friends, is how the website we know and love came to be. Of course since then there have been many hilarious and infinitely memorable moments on Giant Bomb, so let’s take a look at the best of these videos.

Classic Giant Bomb Moments

Jeff, playing Mega Man 9 (And Failing)
.
As if seeing Jeff die repeatedly wasn’t awesome enough, is that also a slight moustache hiding on Jeff’s upper lip? I expect to be able to add the video of Jeff playing Mega Man 10 here in the future, hopefully with additional video of the game, so we can laugh at where Jeff is dying over and over. With any luck it will be on Sheep Man!

World Exclusive Madden NFL 09 Launch Blast Release Zone

This video is one that many people missed simply because of the name, what makes this video great is that it’s the only sports game to get reviewed on the site, and it’s not a review of a sports game! That’s double awesome!

V-Pain
The debut video of V-Pain! now famous around the world for his musical stylings. Finally you too can see the beginning of the legend! Check it out!

Giant Bomb iPhone App Commercial
While we are on the topic of iPhones... despite what you may have heard or seen about Giant Bomb on your iPhone (NEVER!), it is in fact possible! Check out the awesome iPhone app commercial (And buy it?!)

Giant Bomb at Wrestlemania XXV

That is definitely the largest amount of crazy fans ever recorded on a Giant Bomb video, plus we get to see famous (arguably?) people pretending to be interested in the game, hilarious!

Dragon Ball: Evolution

From manga to anime to movie to game, this game is exactly what you would expect. I love Dragon Ball games, but this one is... well let’s just say it’s as good as the movie, not to mention it has the best cutscenes ever in a game. EVER. Thanks to CitizenKane for suggesting this one, I had already blocked this game out of my mind.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
And now dear reader, the quick look of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince with those two potter heads; Vinny and Ryan. This quick look is too funny! Don’t watch it near people who will give you strange looks for laughing out loud. Thanks to CitizenKane for reminding me of this gem!

Noby Noby Boy
What can I say about Noby Noby Boy.. If you were on drugs, this game would make sense. Jeff and Ryan try and struggle through this trippy-ass game full of magical crack, space squirrels, upside down dogs, zooming all the way out to space. Oh, and that crazy dude who made Katamari Damacy made this game. Awersome.  Thanks to DanielJW!

2Human
You might be thinking I should have put Too Human instead of 2Human, like the game.. Well.. *Blat Blat Blat* Son. Thanks to Steve_C for reminding me of this one!

Crash Time
Another video with awesome and completly accurate impressions. Jeff and Ryan QL Crash Time, a terrible Race 'n' Chase game based on some crazy TV show in europe. The voice acting is amazing and so are the impressions!   "I will hit the button for show you what just happened"   Thanks to Bigbombomb for this one!

Halloween Message from Luchadeer
I think the best way to end this segment would be with a message from Luchadeer, the beloved mascot of Giant Bomb. So check out this hilarious and completely not scary at all video. (Help me! I’m in the basement room with the toilet. 911.)

If you have watched all these videos, then you have a good idea why Giant Bomb is in a special place in our hearts, however, you still aren’t done. If you really want to be one of us, or if you just want to spend more virtual time with Giant Bomb, here are some recommended, but not mandatory videos to check out.

Extras

Jeff's Interview
Totally Sidetalkin' Website

First, start by reading Jeff’s interview with the creator of sidetalkin.com about the official death of the N-Gage, that guy is crazy! Once you are done that, I highly recommend you check out sidetalkin.com, the picture galleries are amazing.

Giant Bomb: The Song

Giant Bomb by Evan Brass.mp3

The video version

Check out this *AMAZING* song about Giant Bomb by Evan Brass, you can visit his website here.
Also check out this really awesome video a fan made using clips from various Giant Bomb videos:

Midnight Brown

Midnight Brown website

Midnight Brown is a band, formed in December of 2003 by Jeff Gerstmann and Chris Henderson, their music has an electronic vibe to it, and is available free on I would love to throw the Suburban All-Stars up in here, but since their website is no longer hosted, I can’t find a site to download them from. If anyone has a link PM me. Suburban All-Stars are awesome.

So that is everything I could think up to include, hopefully you were able to watch a video that you had never seen before, and if not, I’m sure there were some great memories to relive in here. Please feel free to suggest anything I missed that should be included, and pass this along to anyone who is new to the site and wants to find these videos. Quick Look concluded!

Cheers guys!

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

Remember the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? The first season premiered in 1993 and ran until 20XX, although I am sure most if not all of us only watched the first few seasons, if even!

Just try listening to this song!

Also did you know that they have an extended version of the song? I guess it makes sense since there is always a full version of every intro song.. but man! It's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers! Its also got some pretty awesome metal bits haha, I definitely don't remember that when I was a kid.

Also did you know:

that Simon Cowell was the producer for " Power Rangers: The Official Single" Pretty crazy stuff.

Johnny Yong Bosch (The black power ranger) Was the voice of the main character, and Adachi in Persona 4? As well as Firion in Final Fantasy: Dissidia, and Nero in Devil May Cry 4!

Jason David Frank, the White/ Green power ranger, Is currently training with UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard, and planning on becoming a MMA fighter, although his first fight has not yet been announced. Badass!

I think I am going to throw it on my iPod haha.

Did the song bring back childhood memories for anyone else?

OnLive.. EVIL? or Good?

So this whole OnLive business has left me thinking that while its a cool idea, it seems EVIL. Here are some points I thought up about why this could be terrible or not:

- There will be no need to buy computer upgrades because its streamed; therefore loss of tons of jobs at nvidia and other computer companies.

-  If we purchase a game and decide to cancel the service, or our internet we can no longer play it since we don't have it downloaded. It also means we don't own our games anymore which is sad in a way, and what if they have to remove the game as it gets older for space? Can we never play it again?

- If you don't live in the USA, how long do you have to wait for this service? Will it even leave the states?

- Virtually no piracy is good for developers, but does that mean no more homebrew or mods?

- You have to be physically close to one of their server hubs to not experience any lag, possible issues for people living in different places.

- Possible internet upgrade required for some users (Worth it anyways) Although most current internet connections will work fine. However if your internet isn't fast
enough, your game will seem sluggish in responsiveness = You Lose Games because you can't react fast enough.

- No more playing consoles while you have things downloading because you need the internet always. Also, nobody will be able to download while anyone is playing games. Problem if you have siblings or parents that like to download things.

Theres probably alot of other issues too but thats what I could think of, also theres the possibility of this service having a monopoly on the market = BAD/ILLEGAL. If another service is created (eg PC => Mac) Then we will have the PS3 vs Xbox 360 Issue all over again!! Some games on each, but now we need our internet to play.
