The list I did of my top 10 games that I played in the year of 2017

Man 2017 has been a great year for video games *maybe even the best time* and trying to create a list was not easy to do. But before we get to the top ten let's have a few honorable mentions shall we.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Ports and remaster simply don't count. This game is so much fun though. First Mario Kart I really got into

ARMS

I really enjoyed ARMS for a good few months. It's a good fun fighter and a new IP from Nintendo. The designs of characters are awesome. Only problem is I fell off the game hard.

Destiny 2

The shooting continues to be great and this game had a lot more content than the first game and overall is great fun. Shame Bungie have been screwing people over a lot recentlly

Mario + Rabbids : Kingdom Battle

This crossover should not have worked and somehow it does. It's a great lite-SRPG with some really good humour.

# 10 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I’ve never been the biggest Zelda guy so hearing that Breath of the Wild was going to be quite a mix up from previous games intrigued me a lot. I’ve only played the game for 15 hours and nowhere near beating it. The world is just a joy to explore though even when I load the game up, clear a shrine or two and put it down. Finishing Breath of the Wild will be a slow burn for me but that doesn’t bother me. I love it for that fact.

#9 Splatoon 2

I loved the original Splatoon. It was the whole reason I bought a Wii U cause it such an amazing game. Splatoon 2 continues that trend. Playing the game online is still such a joy and the new weapons added are really fun. On the downside you can say that it is STILL Splatoon. Nothing major got changed which isn’t really a bad thing but it does stop it being higher on the list. Hopefully whenever Splatoon 3 comes around they mix things up a bit more.

#8 Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

Uncharted 4 was a great game last year but it really did go on too long. I was still excited when this was announced though considering how good Naughty Dog did with Left Behind for The Last of Us. Then it became its own stand-alone game and it was amazing. It still has the typical gameplay sections and set pieces that the Uncharted series is known for but also adds some really cool sections. The first chunk of the game where you are dropped in an open area to explore and complete your objectives in any order you like was refreshing. It also shows that Uncharted can work without Nathan Drake.

#7:Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

You kill a lot of Nazis in Wolfenstein II. The gameplay is real fun even if some of the level design can be a bit bad. Also for the record the court room fight is a BS spike in difficulty. I’m glad Machine Games didn’t try to make Wolfenstein II this year’s Doom though. The story is still a real factor in this title. This game has so many great moments. The world building that occurs during this game was absolutely amazing. Machine Games continue to build on B.J as an actual character in strong way. I cannot wait to see how this trilogy ends up. Mecha Hitler has to happen

#6 Doki Doki Literature Club

JUST MONIKA

This game is such a great experience and I absolutely loved it. Play it.

#5 Super Mario Odyssey

The Switch has had such a great opening year and Mario Odyssey is simply a joy to play. It looks great. It plays great. It sounds great. Nintendo really stretched out and did some real crazy stuff with Mario, even letting you possess a realistically modeled dinosaur. It is a great title and a must own if you have a Switch.

#4 Persona 5

Persona 5 oozes style in every way possible. I was initially a bit nervous about the heist theme that game was setting but it really does work in its favor. It allows each dungeon to be vastly different and stops it feeling a bit boring. The combat system is enhanced from Persona 4 and still feels really good when you get things right. The soundtrack is really good with how jazzy it is. Shame it takes so long to open up.

I think the biggest knock against Persona 5 is that it’s not as good as Persona 4.

#3 Nier: Automata

Yoko Taro is now one of those names in video games that when he is attached to a project I will pay more attention. After playing and enjoying the hell out of Drakengard 3 a few years back and the demo that was released last year was solid. Granted it’s not the most impressive game visually but it has a style and stick to it. The combat is pretty easy but looks real flashy and you feel like a bad ass. The story is without a doubt a Yoko Taro story and really goes places. You will simply experience all sorts of emotions throughout the journey. I love the soundtrack and sometimes just have it playing while doing other things. Ending E is great.

#2 Yakuza Zero

So this was my second attempt to get into the Yakuza series. I bought Yakuza 3 when it came out but I barely played my PS3 last gen. Since this gen I’ve played most of my stuff on my PS4 I wanted to give it another shot. I’m so glad I did. There is so much in this game that I still have not done it all. The main story is really well done and a lot of the stories in the side quests are even better. It’s amazing how many different things you can do in Yakuza 0. From running a club to the UFO catchers it’s so easy to get caught up in stuff. Sure the combat can be difficult to get a grasp of at first but once you do it’s so enjoyable. I’d never get tired of seeing some of those heat actions. The soundtrack is also freaking incredible. Yakuza Kiwami was also a real good game and I cannot wait for Yakuza 6 and Kiwami 2.

#1 Resident Evil VII : Biohazard

The Resident Evil series has been on a bit of a rocky road recently. I was initially very skeptical of Resident Evil 7. Initially the shift to first person felt like Capcom trying to copy the style that other horror games like Amnesia and Outlast were providing. The beginning hour teaser and statements by the team did ease those fears. Then the game came out and I was simply blown away. It is everything I love about Resident Evil. The pacing is really well done and the game creates a great creepy atmosphere. Only thing I have not done yet is trying this in VR. Hopefully Capcom can continue delivering good titles like this.
