XmassCthulhu: Best of 2010

List items

  • Red Dead Redemption was amusingly written, beautifully rendered, populated with great characters, and enjoyable throughout the bulk of the game. The overall experience more than made up for the moments that kinda dragged. Couple the world the created with an ending that seems, to me, quite daring for a video game, and you have the Game of the Year.

And Undead Nightmare has to be one of my favorite DLCs, competing with some of Fallout 3's, in my mind.

  • The perfect video game proxy for a science fiction film, Mass Effect is, again, amusingly written, beautifully rendered, and populated with great characters, and most of it is enjoyable.

Some of it is f@#king annoying though and the last boss is just silly. So, that's why it loses to RDR.

  • To be honest, I didn't finish it. But not due to the quality of the game, but rather due to the limitations of my computer. But what I played was up to, if not beyond, the standard we have come accustomed to from Blizzard. And that's saying a lot.

  • This is the first Assassin's Creed game with the distinction of keeping me interested enough to finish.

The franchise's patented blend of fact and bat-shit crazy fiction coupled with the addition of the guild building/managing really makes this game worth while.

Also, killer voice acting and character designs.

  • It lacks the weight and the focus of its predecessor's storyline, but still manages to be one of the most enjoyable games to come out this year, almost in spite of itself.

  • Who doesn't love a good "Hi, I'm basically LotR, but I'm going to be just a little different so I can have my own damn franchise" game? Well, I don't. Not usually. But this one was really quite good, provided it was played on the PC. Which, you know, I did.

  • A very fun co-op oriented game. However, I found it somewhat lacking due to the fact that it really is only fun if you play it with someone else. And as someone who can't always manage that, I found it to be vaguely disappointing.

Plus, the desert landscape wears on you after a while (haven't played DLC).

  • With a faster pace, more emotional storyline, and a fun co-op mode, I wound up dumping a good amount of time into this game.

  • A solid Halo game. Which is more than I can say for ODST. And, really, I feel that's all that needs to be said on its behalf.

A lotta fun, but too short and maybe a little too serious feeling.

  • Maybe expansions don't count, even if they are standalone, so that's why it's all the way down here.

But, I love Chaos Rising almost as much as standard DoW2. The addition of the legions of Chaos makes an already epic game even more epic.
